Okay, I know WebAfrica and IS is working on this, but I'm wondering why this happened?

I had to PC's connected to my 30GIG Local the past day in Bridged mode (dial up on my pc), so today I dissconnected both and switched off the router.

now I'm trying to connect the 30GIG on my other PC where I'm visiting, but it's preventing me as there is already 2 connections.

After 12 mins with WebAfrica on my cell phone they can't seem to fix the problem? It has been escalated to Internet Solutions?

1) How is a connection possible on a switched off router (100% sure no one is stealing bandwidth)
2) WA could have offered me a few local gigs for free (they could even have deducted it from my 30G account), as I have been wasting my international now!
3) How come WA can't sort this out?

I don't have the answer, but I'm curious about how you know that there are already 2 connections active.

Log on to Web Africa.
>Services
>Click on the "manage" tab of a product.

A new window will open.

Click on Authentication.

At the top the "Current Connections" are shown. :)

If you change the password on your account won't that force the existing sessions to reauthenticate and be dropped?

Can't you disconnect sessions from the control panel?

When your connection starts a message is sent to WA's servers to tell them you're online. Another message is sent when you terminate your connection to the DSLAM. If that stop message is lost then WA will have no way of knowing that you have disconnected and will assume that you are still connected. When you next try and connect they will have 'active' sessions in their database and refuse to allow more.

There is no connection currently on, my home in Joburg is on (according to them), but my router is off. :(

Will try that. Thanks

Looks like in the WA website I can disconnect my SAIX account, but not the IS one, don't know if it is only because of this problem now!

You have never been able to do anything to IS accounts using the panel.

I don't think so...cause if you kill the juice to your router then the connection is severed too and no stop message is sent there.

:eek:Just noticed my WA account is also dead...not the same problem though.

Hi Havoc
Could you please pm me your user id.
We will contact you asap regarding the problem.

No - the stop message is sent by the DSLAM when it looses the connection... your router does not have enough intelligence to handle the start and stop messages

Message from WebAfrica.

We've made a change to the display of sessions on the DSL-Console, if
your connection has not been active for 3 hours (ie. we have not
received any usage updates for 3 or more hours), then your connection
will be removed from the list.

This should prevent some clients from seeing sessions active (and
having them counted towards your connection count) on their account
despite them in fact being closed on the side of SAIX/IS/Verizon.
