Wa Uunet

I fear that Uunet are about to lose a fair amount of support - support that would be lucrative down the line when the market eventually opens up. Eventually there will be many market players offering the same product at the same price but as the expression goes - once bitten, twice shy.

My job necessitates sending large files via p2p on a global scale. The majority of the recipients are constantly moving around but generally have broadband access via hotels etc. Despite assurances that only BT traffic would be curtailed I’ve noticed an overall slowing in almost all of the p2p solutions freely available for cross platform use. FTP to a centralized server would be an option but not a practical one.

I’m curious as to what the other Uunet subscribers are planning to do. The way I see it there are 2 options at the moment – either switch to a 30gb SAIX offering or stick with Uunet and see what happens. Probably the best for me is to give my 30 day notice and rescind it if the situation changes. Any other Uunet users formulating different strategies based on your current experiences?

I might be bit off the court here, but hey.. everyone please leave UUNET, more bandwidth for me and if everyone leave, maybe BT would be going at awesome speeds again :)

Now take a bite out of this lol

Well i'm definitely considering getting the 1mbps telkom package when its released, obviously taking into consideration what the price will be, service etc. I wouldn't want to be on a 30gig package when this does happen as it'll probably be capped after 5 days of use. I'm still making full use of my uunet account so I might as well wait and see what happens- also taking into consideration what they will do once 1mbps ADSL is released. I can't see them capping at 512k but then its also possible they might not provide the account at the same price. I just hope the time where we are semi-satisfied with any service isn't too far into the future.

I am sure UUNet will offer such service. while many complain about speeds at UUNet, this is only a temporary problem which will be resolved, that of which am convinced, as for worked on a contract for Siemens at UUNet. They have the best setup and structure of a network, far beyond other ISP's. They continue to work to improve and while not having the staffing structures of ISP like IS, they knowledge makeup for lack of manpower. For UUNet, you go!

:D
Your line speed is approximately 1388.7 Kbps or 170.2 kBytes/sec
( Where kb = kilobits and kB = kiloBytes )

Results:
Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

Download time: 2.938 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 1388.7 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 170.2 (kiloBytes/second)

eat all words about UUNet.

Some personal attacks got nuked by me today. Please keep it safe...

:)

UUNet is great. I have been using them for a month and things are working great. The speeds is excellent.

Well almost all is well with my account BT included. :) One problem though, eDonkey is either really slow or not working at all. Getting a LOWID the whole time no matter what port I use. It's not the router cos not using its firewall. Anyone on UUNet having the same problem or know how to fix it pls let me know. BT is running great though.

Hope someone can help and thanx in advance.

go to astalavista.box.sk get the crack but use firefox or you will get spies

another thing disable windows firewall and all your others and see

firewall are stupid if you update and dont run .exe and dont use norton your fine
i say pc cillin owns the virus market amazing

well Bwana I don't know a couple of days ago they just started running fine again at about 20-40K (Depends on the amount of peers). Works at that speed during the day aswell. I'm on 384K so that is about full speed.

Killadoob, I don't run windows firewall. I run Zonealarm and I don't block edonkey with it. So the firewall is not the problem. BTW I will never run Norton it uses way too much system resources. AVG Free Edition works great for me and I have had no problems. O did I mention that it's free! :) I have cracked edonkey so it's not that. Think I will try emule.

Hey,

How aggressive is AVG? I am looking for an anti-virus that's aggressive but takes the least resources.
