WAR - Which servers?

I got a Arch mage to rank 6 last night. I will admit its been a lot of fun. Even as A healer I was able to kill a lot of things and only found myself running away like a girl once or twice which was really different to other games.

The PVP area are also really great. It works on the same principle as WoW, with the battle grounds (at least for me now) but you dont have to go find NPC to queue up. You can queue up from anywhere in the world, and when your finished you are sent back to the exact same place you left. When you enter the RVR area, and your are a lowbie, Your stats are also boosted up a few levels (I was boosted to Rank 8 each time). So even as a lowbie your not ganked and 1 shot killed each time.

There are still a few things that need to be "polished" up, and the login servers suck. Thats not WAR's fault though but more the EU publishers (which are of course french Telecoms which says something).

But so far it looks promising.

PS: I've got the beta client downloaded in JHB - alberton. Just need to find a way to get it to the people who want a copy

That is not to far from me :)

Will not be able to get hold of it though as I'm going away for the weekend. Wednesday is the launch so I might as well wait

I gained 6 ranks last night in 4 hours.. so even if you get it monday.. you could say be R10 on wednesday.. its still a bit of a jump :)

Whoop got to play some WAR this weekend, first impressions . I leveled a few chars to about lvl 5 and my favorite Disciple of Kain to lvl 11.

1. Leveling,Questing and Combat is pretty much same as WoW. Questing is more streamlined [if you used QuestHelper in WoW, basically you have that in WAR].
2. Public Quests is alot of fun actually, such a simple concept. No need to make groups (although it helps) , it just happens, and sometimes it happens when you're busy doing something else and the big boss starts stomping on you :/.
3. Everyone seems to be playing Destruction. They outnumber Order on every server.. Destro = the new Alliance it seems.
4. Alot of the servers are full already [on the destro side], pick a Medium Load server or be ready to queue.
5. Scenarios aka "Battlegrounds" , so far plays pretty much like Arathi Basin , except that there's more than one map [finally] , and a few interesting "environmental" stuff thrown in. The one map, the flag-area actually explodes [killing everyone in a certain radius], so you can't camp/defend it just by standing there ;).

6. RvR aka "World PvP" , i've been into 2 warzones so far. The first one was pretty much quiet and worked alot like "Plaguelands" in WoW [ where you cap the 3 towers and such]. Except Mythic did a very good job to make it all worthwhile and a few rules so it's not a stupid "Tag-team" thing. doing stuff in the warzones actually means you win the zone, and winning the zone gives all kinds of bonusses.

7. The 2nd warzone had a battlekeep, i actually ran in there to open a flightpath so it was a bit high lvl for me, but i got caught up in a siege...and wow...Order was launching a massive attack on the Destro Battlekeep and it was catapults/turrets and nuking all over the place...the battlekeep itself also got the oildrop stuff coming down on top of the order guys tryign to come in and lots of scattered pvp'ing. As a lvl 11 inbetween lvl 15-20s (yes it's not max lvl people doing this), i ran behind the lines and started chopping down some turret thing..and then something big exploded on me..ded :(.

8. Social/Channels is a mess. It's very quiet in public chat, probably because people are actually playing and not farming/grinding. The chat UI can do with some work though, i've found it extremely hard to follow. Not sure why. I think the NPCs are talking too much. (yes i know you can filter it, but it doesn't seem to be saved when you log)

9. I have yet to find a "capital" or "hub", so far it's a VERY linear path from one little camp to the next as you level up. <-- i believe this adds to the reason why public chatter is ded, no one is in a specific zone for long.

10. You can do all this stuff from lvl 1 ! Scenarios seem to increase everyone's rank to an average rank, so you can actually do a scenario as a lvl 1 with lvl 10 people.

11. DYES!! If you played GuildWars you might know , how amusingly fun this concept is [and how expensive it gets]. WAR basically copied the concept [for the better] . You got that Blue Armor, you change the colour to whatever you want...or rather to whatever colour you can get. I already noticed the NPC dyer did not have Black...and dye drops from mobs too...so just like GW, black will probably be pretty valuable at some stage ;).
This alones makes customization alot better than WoW, you can actually remember a player just because he had some silly bright yellow robe on.

Anyway, i was actually pretty bored initially, as it felt EXACTLY like WoW in the first few levels. Push through to lvl 10 where you get close to the battlekeep stuff. It's clear if you just want to solo PvE, you will probably get bored fairly soon. You must do the Public Quests and RvR stuff to see where things start gets interesting.

WAR hasnt copied the concept from GuildWars, Dyes were in DAOC (Mythics previous game) right from the start way before GuildWars was out.

Ok ok, i don't know who was first, and i don't really care. I like it regardless :) .I just know it was a hit in Guildwars and i was surprised Blizzard haven't picked up on it.

It makes a bigger difference on the overall uniqueness of everyone than one would think.

Destro = the new Alliance it seems.
I realised the same thing, except I thought it was Destro is the new horde :D I guess it depends on what server you played in WoW. Dest pretty much owned the first few scenarios I went in, but as the weekend moved on we seemed to do much better. However Dest is still in control of almost all the zones by me.

I'm playing an Order healer class and I am also really loving it. Its great when the battle score sheet comes does and you see you had the highest healing rate, along with the most damage done at the same time! People seem to be recognizing me in my Purple and yellow robes now though and last night as soon as the other players saw me, they just all swarmed me. Guess its time to redye my clothes :D

Yea, i think in WoW , Horde has resurfaced in general as the popular faction lately, probably more a boredom thing. Catch with WAR is, the Destro side actually looks good and the more interesting classes seem to be there. Order seem to be cookie cutter, dwarf, human, elf [and the typical classes going with those] . Although that dwarf engineer dude with the canons looks awesome.

If you go by the WAR Cinematic alone, it's obvious what people will choose. In WoW everyone remembers the Night Elf chick turning into a black panther ..guess how that turned out. In WAR, the most memorable moments for me : The little silly gnome err..goblin with the big red bouncing monster thingy. The Chaos Marauder with the mutating arm and the Hot Dark Elf chick with a sense of style going ;) . The only missed showing the chaos guy that floats around on a disc.

I can see why people would pick Destro. ;)

Gratz on your 10 000 posts btw.

The problem is I live in Nelspruit I don't think I can trust the local game suppliers to deliver.

Heh, i'm not even sure i would trust any supplier to deliver on that day....i hope they don't disappoint as it will really suck to get at a shop Wednesday morning sharp, and then they're still waiting to get the plastic off and can only give it to you like midnight.

After talking to an avid WAR player (whos lived in Beta since it started), i might try WAR  if not it can go into my frozen pile of MMO accounts :o

Oh crap!

Just got an SMS from BT games. WAR will be delayed to next week due to shipping delays from overseas.

I know they have given us all a few days to get the game. I'm wondering though if we will have enough time before they kick us all out :(
