huh? the article IS ABOUT RACE, or did you also stop reading at the headline? I'm not bringing anything new into this conversation, RACE was already here...

Let me quote from the article:

So they're saying whites were always corrupt and the black majority simply continued the same corrupt practices like sheep.

As pointed out, the catch is that Moral Values and ethics are not inherited.. they are taught. So what is being said is the NATS taught the ANC how to be corrupt.

The ANC uses the race card, always when it suits them. If the ANC had become a model government with low corruption, they'd have said it was their own creation. They always blame apartheid and the whites, and also contemporary whites. The West always saw through this BS, just that apartheid was so morally wrong that once the Soviet Union fell they had to pressure De Klerk who himself was a sensible man to abolish it.

The ANC now blames corruption on apartheid, and frankly this is a cheap cop out. They think they're the ONLY ones who were oppressed well that is also nonsense. The public opinion in the world is changing against the ANC, you should see how that last stunt Zuma pulled about the multiple wives, how that is changing perceptions even among friends from other continents who only learned of apartheid and know nothing else about SA.

The Nats taught the ANC about racial discrimination. That I believe. However, the NATS were poor at corruption. Look at PW Botha. Where are his Swiss bank account millions? De Klerk? Where are his offshore funds? How many villas did the former NP leaders own? Where is this corruption? The previous government was not corrupt. I remember it was even impossible to bribe someone back here, hehe. Now they take bribes.

Prior to 1994 did the government give tenders for things like getting roads built? Or did state owned companies do the work?

In many cases the State did the work themselves. Remember the Roads Department and the Department of Public Works?

Nowadays it is a miracle just to get all the State employees to their workplace, never mind to actually do some work!!!

/this excludes SARS, as they are too good for my liking!

Geez can you imagine the uproar if projects weren't put up for tender.

THe ANC needs to stop blaming White people. Without White people the Blacks would still be living in the stone age.

Dear ANC,

Assuming that you inherited corruption, you then had two choices.

1. Clean it up.
2. Embrace it enthusiastically.

You chose the latter. Your choice. Your fault. Your bad.

Are they saying that they are irresponsbile, incompetent little boys with no minds of their own ?

Sounds like that to me !

The ANC was never ready to transform from a liberation movement to a government. They are still a liberation movement by hart, and will always be, until they accept that they have "won", and there is nothing to liberate. They now have the power to build a better society. The only challenge they face, are the ones they create themselves.

I think a large number of black people in SA really feel lost between "African" values and "Western" values.

The "African" way of life is community-driven ... ubuntu and all of those values. You do not earn a salary and then go live on your own to enjoy the fruits of your labour - you have to share it with (the extended) family.

On the other side of the spectrum, amongst Westeners or at least people with that frame of mind (and here I think the majority of white people would feel more comfortable slotting in), individual independence is the height of achievement, the "I made it through life by my own efforts" kind of thinking. You also find smaller, independent family units here.

So I think a lot of black people want one way of life, but feel compelled to follow the other way and this causes a lot of inner conflict.

JMO!

So and I inherited Bad eyes. I wear glasses.
I inherited a horrible Showcase full of shyte!! I gave it to charity.

Inheriting anything does not mean you have to take it or be like it. It’s just a lame excuse for being weak and a criminal.

I always waited for the ANC to blame apartheid for their corruption.... drum roll plz

and we have a winner:

Johannesburg - South Africa inherited a "corrupt and a wrong value system" which it was currently managing, ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe said on Friday.

"What we inherited actually corrupted us and therefore we are actually managing a corrupt system and a wrong value system.

"The new order [after 1994]... inherited a well entrenched value system that placed individual acquisition of wealth at the very centre of the value system of our society as a whole," he said, delivering the Inaugural Violet Seboni memorial lecture at the Johannesburg City Hall.

Quoting former president Thabo Mbeki, Mantashe said:"Within the context of the development of capitalism in our country, individual acquisition and material wealth produced through oppression and exploitation of the black majority became the defining social value in the organisation of white society."

This was historic he said.

"Now because the white minority was the dominant social force in our country, it entrenched in our society as a whole including among the oppressed the deep-seated understanding that personal wealth constituted the only true measure of individual and social success."

Societal values have shifted from "revolutionary morality to material ownership".

The country needed reminding that life was not about "being in business".

"Youth must be informed about participation in academia, in politics, in trade unions, in NGOs [non-government organisations] and other structures and sectors that serve society if we dream of saving our society.

"Serving our people, not monetary accrual, is the definition of success."

Mantashe told the hall, packed with Congress of SA Trade Union members, that "prudence, modesty and hard work" should be the image projected by role models in society.

Seboni was second deputy president of Cosatu and she died in a car crash in April 2009 on her way to campaign for the ANC.

some of the things he said here are true, but i cannot believe the part about inheriting corruption.... W T F !?

I'm pretty sure this isn't the first time the corruption has been blamed on apartheid and unfortunately it won't be the last. Yes, I agree that it probably did but there aren't any plans in place to change anything.

Bwahahahaaha :D

That's so true though. I mean, someone puts a gun in your hand, it's not your fault if you kill someone with it! No way.

To think that every day people step out of their personal societal foundations (conservatives become liberal, religious become agnostic/atheist, meat-eaters become vegetarian or entirely vice-versa) to do what they, themselves, feel is morally right. Needless to say then that either ANC officials are incapable of making morally justifiable decisions of their own or they choose to be corrupt. I wonder which it is? :) Neither is a good example of a human being.
