Cause people "didnt have much responsibility", or "not doing too much". Granted, a few departments only catered for a minority of the population, but most dealt with the entire populous.

Compared to today where things are so efficient... waiting 3 months for an ID book renewal and 4 months for a drivers license appointment. Having to deal with any government department is so much fun!

It worked well ................................................. if you were a white recipient of services.

How do you think the rest of the population experienced it ?

I'm sure if I asked you to list any allegations of stealing against every minister in government you'd have trouble doing so;). Not saying they aren't but what you made there is a sweeping statement based on perception.

Buying an exorbitant car is also stealing from the people ! Or padding your travel bill ! Or staying in really expensive accommodation ! Or being a tenderpreneur ! Or not disclosing interests and assets ! Not to mention accepting bribes ! Etc, etc, etc.

What I asked you to try and do is list a minister & allegations. Here let me help,
1. Minister of Communications, S Nyanda: used political influence to obtain tenders at Transnet & his own department...

At least under the previous dispensation... if you were caught stealing from the government you were arrested and put away for a few years.

Today they make you a Cabinet Minister.

Welllllll today is the first of September, so whether it was resurrected or not, it still is "old" news, and the people reading it today were possibly thinking that it was "fresh' as against nearly 5 months old.;)
 
Sting is just confused, the mods resurrected your thread by merging it with one started today (01 Sept 2010) by someone who had gone on an ANC corruption fishing expedition.

Botha and them used the anti communist organizations in Mosambique and Angola to keep our economy going and wash money through the system. The Nats were good at hiding their theft, the ANC simply just takes the money from treasury. De Klerk in no means was a sensible man, when he was minister of internal affairs he used to be the biggest racist in the country, Botha even said that he is two faced.

Sure there was corruption under the old apartheid government, the difference was if you were caught you found yourself in prison.

Hehe, I was watching a documentary (on Mzansi channel nogals) about 3 weeks ago about the events leading up to Mandelas release etc. PW Botha started the whole thing, De Klerk had other ideas but he knows how to play politics and stabbed PW in the back with a long knife. The dude (can't remember his name) that did most of the talking with Mandela (& some other activists) and Pik Botha had nothing good to say about De Klerk. He is not the saviour he has made himself out to be, just a conniving politician basking in the glory.

An interesting thing I never knew was that Mandela did not spend his last years before release in an actual prison. He lived in two different houses for many years and the other prisoners & family were allowed to come visit him. Got taken for drives etc. I laughed when he mentioned that on one of these drives both the blokes with him got out of the car and just left him there to go into a shop or something, the thought of making a run for it was just to much for him :D Was a good documentary.

Roelf Meyer, he was a little boy at the time Ramapoga walked circles around him. Pik Botha was an alcoholic to the extend where he beat his wife, and said she fell of the stairs in his drunken state he gave away SWA/Walvis Bay. By no means am I against what de Klerk did, but how he went about it is a whole different story. He should take responsibility for a lot of things that are wrong today.

Ja well, international figure really, they couldn't afford to keep him in Jail. He was still under house arrest with certain benefits.

not really, but to be honest with you I would rather vote for Malema than for a VF+ and all the pro nats currently, at least I know where I am with Malema, and unlike (I'm making an assumption here), I lived through the 80, national service, and the indoctrination of the nats, I know what I am talking about.
