Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Yip, having the same issues, some websites not loading at all, others are slow.

Even downloading on Astraweb, speed is non-existent. Downloaded 136kb in 2 minutes.

Edit: Speed starting to climb now to half speed. Intermittent problem?

Get a decent ISP and stop complaining, they can't fix it or they won't that is clear - after 7 pages of complaints?

Oh yes, forgot it is Telkom to blame or what was the most recent excuse Google, if I recall correctly?

Vote with your wallet, they will soon wake up and offer you an incentive to get you back, (if you want to go back) like how many times before?

There is a plethora of ISP's that offer uncapped accounts that offer better latency that WA offers, at a quarter of the price.

My advice is - stay away from the mainstream ISP's, they all seem to have too many issues, too many clients, too little bandwidth / skilled techs.

PM me if you must - cannot find a decent ISP / connectivity and I'll point you in the right direction.

Regards

My connection was fine until 21:30 when I went to bed, so can't comment on what happened later on.
BTW if you are having issues with the connection after hours, why did you not call the support line? I never had any problems getting through to them any hour of the day...

But by all means do put your complaints/ compliments down here as well, at least the rest of us can then relate to your problem or avoid it in the first place. The WA-forums is also a good place, though I presume like myself a lot of people are blocked from it due to their work's website filter.

I also had some problems last night where it seemed I was being throttled on speed. Latencies were fine, but as soon as I open a few websites with pictures/videos some of the pictures don't load and the videos take forever to load.

And it was common sites like News24 and Youtube. No funny site hosted on dialup.

Morning guys,

There are a couple of posts I'd like to address individually, however I'll be following up with the Networking guys as to what happened last night. I'll have feedback as soon as possible.

Are there still issues this morning or where their only issues last night?

Better. Perhaps a hint of slowness still on google services, but pretty close to normal.

And the NS ran through the night just fine.

Finding the service over the past few day overall very poor, esp. in the mornings. Speed Test using speedtest.net on my 4mb line is coming in at about 0.98mb. Struggle to use Internet Banking, although when I connect via Vodacom, no problems!!!

Not a happy camper!!!!

The issue is connection resets.

When you load a web page if will create separate connections for each resource it has to download, HTML, images, css and javascript files, etc.

Lets say a typical page creates 20 connections to the web server to download the content on the page. What is happening is 10 that connections are successful and download the content and the other 10 are terminated because WA has mis-configured their networking software or hardware.

The end result is a half loaded page where the content from the 10 successful connections is displayed, and the content from the 10 terminated connections just 'spins the wheel' while it waits in vain for the content to arrive.

hmm, glad i found this thread. Mostly because im glad to know its not just me having these problems

I have been suffering with intermittent packet loss for quite a while now. This seems to be happening with my WA account only basically making it useless. No use having nice low latency when you get big lag spikes quite often

This seems to be happening especially early evening. Gets better the later it gets

This thread is an eye opener tbh. Ill be logging a call with their call center but looking at whats going on here. I wont be holding my breath

All seems well again, and my downloads went to full speed in the early hours of this morning so I got all my downloads complete.

@ who.is.michael - We all know you hate WA, I think many of us did vote with our wallets going WA, well at least I did. Show me any other ISP willing to give me 111gb per month at R99 and I'll gladly move, until then, WA FTW

Arrived home just now and tried to connect. Nothing happened; reset my router. Managed to browse the net for a short time and then pages did not load. Phoned support; reset my port and I tried Afrihost. Browsing fine

Back to WA, and nothing. Phone support and they are now testing my line. All works fine on their side; now I must send trace routes etc.

Maybe I lack patience, but this is so annoying. I do understand it happens from time to time, but with WA, those times to times seems to be getting sooner and sooner.

Once this si done, back to WA and hopefully all will be fine!!

Connected with WA, but for most purposes all dead. Did some trace routes, but could not do a speedtest.

Am back on Afrihost all all working fine.

Let's hope WA is back soon - or if it is just me, that they can get it sorted soon

my speeds are much better. my scheduler on DL+ runs full speed without any problems.
i'm a happy chappie

Connection has been sluggish all day. I did speed tests to their backbone every hour and never got above 0.9mb on a 4mb line.

Must say, that up until a few days ago I have been getting excellent service. Don't know what is going on.

only problem I am still having is WA just dying for 5 - 10 min or i have to reset my router

Did phone WA support and report it on monday but still yet to get any feedback from them

Have not notcied any other issues
