Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Hi |tera|,

Can you PM me the ticket number so I can get our team on your ticket immediately. Apologies for the delay in responding your ticket and I will investigate why it has not been responded to.

I will send the pm,

Not without saying. Fix your system. If you can't program your ticket system to not close a ticket that has not received a response from your own company, then I don't know if you should have a support department catering for support issues via a ticketing system. It's really bad form. It's not the norm and really poor.

I am considering a Web Africa Business account for home use.

Is there anything i should know as a home user?

Are the thresholds higher?

Unshaped during and after business hours?

Hi Chevron,

The thresholds are much higher on a Business Uncapped account than a home account so you will be able use much more data without being throttled. You also are not shaped as much on P2P and downloads during the day. The Business account are also on our Titanium profile which is the same profile as the Home capped service.

Been using their new capped product since 1st of month and rarely get less than full line speed on all protocols when testing.Keep up the good work WA!

Awesome news :D Glad you loving the account performance and thanks for the feedback.

hi Justin,

i'm constantly contacting WA about slow speeds. last night the ping was over 400 and after phoning JP I emailed a complaint to support. this morning suddenly the ping's down to 70 - is this a WA problem or is Telkom to blame? if it's Telkom I may as well cancel with WA and have Telkom remove my voice line - that's never used anyway.

MTN's worse than useless at night (last few weeks) so although i'm paying WA R200 pm, Telkom R400 pm (voice + ADSL) and R200 pm on mobile data, when it comes to the push there's no data throughput.

last night the ping was over 400

I experienced higher gaming latency and what felt like general browsing sluggishness yesterday evening. If it continues today I'll open a ticket with WA Support and try to supply relevant test data.
Two other people I know who are with WA also mentioned similar issues last night, we are all in the Cape Town area, Edgemead, Durbanville, etc.

Can someone give me feedback on the capped accounts? There doesn't seem to be much (maybe a good thing)

Pity its not pro-rata though... don't really feel like spending R600 on a 200GB...

Also interested, looking into the 120gig +120 after hours package, capped R399.

I've tried WA for a few months last year - was great, but they fell behind in dropping their prices so I shifted over to AH and Axxess (home accounts across all) - and as a big Netflix watcher the experience on MTN (AH/Axxess) was horrid compared to IS (Web Africa).

Back on WA this month, 4mb uncapped, 72GB, still on 5 stars. My downloads are queued for midnight-6am and capped to 20kb/sec (total) during the day - watch netflix in the evenings and I'm quite happy to be back.

Thanks blunt for the feedback. Having a similar issue at the moment with OW though speeds have sort of picked back up. I don't understand, I switch from Plugg uncapped to OW uncapped to get away from slow and expensive prices, then was slow, then switched to capped as then the bandwidth should be already allocated to you so no issues, now having some odd movements and prices have stayed the same even though the rest of the world has cut prices, so looking for greener pastures (again) and cost savings, the 120+120gigs capped looks attractive. I had the whole star issue at Plugg though and it was not a nice experience, perhaps different as its on a capped line now? Ah sorry, I see you on uncapped. What are the times then for "after hours"?

It appears AH is having some issues at the moment to going by their thread so WA looks like the next possible visit...

I've been having a similar problem... At last after going through all the checks I've discovered it's my router. It could be many things though. Most occations I have issues I request a port reset from Telkom and things seem to come right. You can do that through the Web Africa Client Zone if you have your line with Web Africa. Have you opened a support ticket on your client Zone? You may want to do some trace routes and paste them here as well.

Just a side note, are you on an uncapped product? What is your star rating looking like? How many gigs used?

Regards.

Capped is always best and no star rating. Why not sign up for the 1 + 1 GB @ web africa for R0,00/month :) Uncapped you would be subject to a star rating, obviously Business would have a much higher threshold. Only way to find out is to test it out for yourself.

their 'after hours' times are 0:00-06:00

still on 5 stars keeping my downloads during that time - 86gb, still all good - hoping it stays this way, judging by my past experiences it should.

I would be so delighted if it was my router. I can borrow one but doesn't that mean setting it up to work on WA to do the test?

Tks i've opened a ticket AGAIN with WA and have been sending the traces and speedtests to them daily. The problem has been reported to Telkom but they usually arrive mid-morning and claim everything's fine. Been there, done that :-(

Downgraded from 4meg to 2meg and also changed from uncapped to capped. On 4meg the router had to be rebooted 3/4 times before it would connect but on the slower speed it connects first time. The router comes from WA and is a Billion.

Star rating 5. Would be nice to get something going to get me down to 1 or 2 haha. Not many gigs used for the same reason.

I'll try to post a trace tomorrow from the PC, tablets are great but i haven't mastered all the tricks.

You can borrow a router and simply enter in your Web Africa details, (Or other test accounts) - and it should just work. All service providers have the same PPPOE settings, just the username and password matters.

Although I would say your most likely cause is something to do with your line or Telkom's network, but it's definitely worth giving everything you can a try ;)

thank for clarifying. I'll do it and at least have proof that it's not the router at fault.

thanks for the feedback WA

The most amazingly competent and helpful lady phoned me this morning to provide feedback on my line speed problem.

I'm ashamed to say her name escapes me but i think it is Monique. Justin would you be kind enough to correct me if that's not right?

WA have really made an effort to sort this out and they've shown that they're able to give fantastic backup service when it's needed.

Although my line hasn't been fixed the fact that Monique (?) took the trouble to phone and give a bit of personal attention makes the world of difference. She changed me from a sulky customer to a happy camper simply by picking up the phone.

Wonderful lady, thanks to her and to you Justin. I hope Telkom manage to resolve the line issue sooooooooon.

I dealt with JP via the online support this morning and too was pleasantly surprised. Did not have to wait too long before it was a live chat and the whole thing worked well

Well done WA

yes, JP is good. seems as if they're improving their service??

if so, WA will be on the way to being the best ISP.
