Quite confusing...on the table it say's that only Business Capped Pro is on "Platinum Quality", but then on the website it says "Our Business Uncapped Pro range makes use of our Platinum Quality bandwidth to ensure you get the best online experience possible."

So what is Business Uncapped Pro on ?

Pretty much the more you pay, the higher the priority your account gets on the network.
Just know that home capped accounts perform superbly and the Business uncapped accounts perform on the same priority, so they will be great unless you want to download a TB of data a month...then they won't work so well.

Good grief. Thanks, I'll definitely be looking elsewhere then. I'm certainly not going to pay through my nose for Business Uncapped and get put into the second lowest bandwidth tier :wtf: It's a bit shocking that 10MB Business Uncapped Pro clients pay R3399/month and are still stuck in the Gold tier as opposed to Platinum.

It's more the fact that I want to give as little money to MTN as possible :) But considering Web Africa isn't going to work for us we'll have to see whether there are any other possibilities.

Can anyone comment on the Business Capped performance across the board as well as business uncapped 4mbit current estimations.
 
I moved to Web Africa's 40GB Home Pro account at the beginning of May and I am very happy with what I am getting for R199 per month. Gone are the days of throttling and high latency in the evening. I play quite a bit of Diablo 3 and hardly ever get any lag spikes like other players in my party on different ISP's.

I can't comment on business capped, but home capped is an excellent product no matter what you want to do, business uncapped runs on the same profile as home capped. Business capped will have less contention compared to home capped and therefore run better. Grab a free 1 GB home capped account to see the see the service levels.
 
I just grabbed a free account and did a test on one of the lowest priority services there is, FTP.

Afrihost Business Uncapped 4mbit gave me 180-200KB/s on a 50 meg file
Webafrica Home Capped gave me 400KB/s (What I used to get before people jumped from MWeb to them)

For my usage webafrica home capped is basically 1:1 cost of business uncapped with afrihost.

So it looks like that's the best option for me, home capped seems to basically be 5 star business uncapped minus the whole star deal. (Please correct me if I'm wrong)
 
Had a call from WA and was told that the 40Gig account costing R149.00 p/m is the best for gaming and if you need to download extra content for your games, you get an EXTRA 40 gigs p/m to be used from 12 midnight to 6 in the morning and this package gives you priority usage=better speeds and lower latency...

Considering we download around 600GB per month, that definitely won't meet our needs unfortunately :D

For that sort of volume anything which works on a star rating / sliding scale / rollover does seem to be easy needs to meet. Mweb locks down tight, Internet Solutions based ISP's have their star ratings eg.. plugg / webafrica ... I know some guys who do hundreds of gigs per month using telkom as their isp but really seems like afrihost business is the account to have for large volumes.

Edit: There is not as much choice as there used to be these days, more like a "Main use = x then go to x ISP"

FYI, Axxess is on the MTN backbone.... :p
 
I signed up last night for the 4mbit business uncapped after testing the home capped free account. I assume afrihost people are going to be reading this thread so my comments so far.

Compared to Afrihost Business Uncapped 4mbit
1) VOIP is superior to Afrihost
2) Streaming video is superior to Afrihost
3) Gaming latency is the same
4) Download speeds are the same if you are using nntp or torrent, a single file download is a bit quicker though
5) Browsing is a bit quicker on page loads
6) Traffic volume, cant comment but since WA uses a star rating and Afrihost does not I assume Afrihost would be superior for traffic volume.

It's basically like Afrihosts Business account was before the heavy downloaders jumped ship from mweb to them and congestion occured, I assume this is due to the star rating keeping people in check.
 
I use about 10-15 gigs average daily Would like to know if I switched back to webafrica where that would put me in this star rating they are talking about.

Home uncapped definitely won't work. Chevron says with +- 250 GB per month on 10 Mbps business uncapped he's sitting on 3 stars, at which everything still works very well, but on 4 Mbps I don't think you'll have that luxury...
 
I too download roughly 10-15GB daily but this is 99% scheduled for the download plus hours and I keep mostly at 5 stars but there some times when I'm dropped to 4 at which point there is hardly any discernible difference noticed.
 
cAv what account do you have ?

I'm curious too as for me you could average 7GB a day tops on a 4mbit uncapped business.
 
This makes sense considering a 200GB In time / 200GB After Hours home capped account is R599 which is slightly cheaper than the business uncapped but without the stars and on the same priority.

For some, capped may be the cheaper better option.
