Web Africa ADSL general feedback

I tested multiple FTP servers and I used some of my free data from other ISP's to test as well. It's not just that 1 server unfortunately. And yes, I tested with their capped data too.

My line speed is actually 4mbps, but I have the 2mbps business uncapped package. The reason to switch over to the capped package is to see if it will speed up, http downloads (from the exact same server, just port 80) downloaded at the full speed my line was capable of. As soon as it hits port 21, 35kb/s

I'm really not one to immediately scream wolf on this one, this has been a good few weeks now and support has done squat, keep blaming my router and telkom port or saying it's iOS updates. I remember them giving the same shameless excuses when they had their own IPC network and couldn't get the shaping/routing right.

But anyway, accounts are cancelled, and I'm not going to argue with you over things I've noticed about the account, capped or otherwise. I know what I was getting previously (we do a lot of FTP stuff) and what I'm getting now. Switching to a different ISP gives us full speed on that port, with no additional router/port resets or waiting for the millions upon millions of iOS users in South Africa to do their updates.

If this was a home account I could maybe understand

Hi Envo,

Very strange that is you the only one having this FTP issues. Is every other protocol running smoothly?

Please provide us with the FTP servers you connecting too so I can get one of our guys to test and investigate further.

We only start billing you from the day your line goes live with us no advance billing and this will of course be pro-rata billing.

Telkom should also credit you from the time you line is moved over to us. Sorry for the misinformation and let me know via PM who you spoke to so I can feedback to him/her.

Got it from your Sales / Cart page. Just took this now. I got the feeling I'd need to pay this straight away.

Sure you are on a slower line, but let me quote you:

You said all accounts, including capped accounts have FTP shaped. I just showed you, my capped account doesn't have FTP shaped.

Perhaps give a test link. It looks like the FTP server you are downloading from is affected by something else, other than the account you are using.

I got my hosting company to move my stuff to a NEW server on a different DC. Same thing. Shaped to 35kb/s

Happy now? Or do I have to move to a different part of the country to prove to you that WA is shaping FTP into the ground on a business account that should be unaffected?

I have same problem for some time, complained last time and suddenly streaming started working better after dropping line to 8Mb/s but soon went back to unusable state again.
Speed test is ok but netflix is just buffering, swambo wants to cancel it and move back to afrihost. She thinks it was better before.
Didd trace route and it times out on second hoop:

Also on capped package.
Any suggestions?
Anyone else have Streaming issues ? I specifically came over to WA since I heard they were the best with Twitch streaming. Unfortunately I cannot even stream on medium quality without it buffering every 2 mins. Youtube struggles to stream at 720 p.

Line Stats:

-------- DSL Information --------
DSL Driver Version: A2pD035m.d24c
DSL VPI/VCI: 8/35
DSL Status: Up

Downloads are flying it is only streaming that sucks. I'm on a capped package

New 10mb home uncapped line is running at 2 - 3mb :'(
Not a great start (signed up today)
Speedtest spikes up to 8mb in the beginning then it drifts down and steadies between 2 - 3.

Might be telkom will have to investigate, any way I can test this?

My 2mb line through a different ISP actually ran slightly faster

Hey guys, I am currently on the 4mb business uncapped, unshaped line with Afrihost. They have really been disappointing lately and I am looking at a similar product from another ISP. What does Web Africa have that is similar or better that Afrihost's offering.

It seems that WA and Afrihost have same issues, I was with afrihost and very happy until February. From then it was downhill until I canceled in July, now two months with WA and I still have same issue, netflix streaming is not working most of the time like from 18:00 till late. Both instances on capped accounts, under 100GB per month usage.
SO just gave me instructions to fix it or cancel netflix. Do not forget cancellation period, WA is calendar month in advance not like Afrihost.
Since it is end of the month I decided to cancel WA account and figure out during the month where next to go.
Maybe you need to explore other options beyond WA and afrihost!

seems wa find it difficult in the month ends. 20meg vsdl line struggling to hit much above 1meg

Quick question: I'm ISP hunting, would just liek to know if WA capped accounts are shaped?

Hi WebAfrica helper,i have bundled my line& upgraded the speed today. When will the upgrade in speed kick in?thanx

Last night I did that too but nothing changed and netflix did not work.
I logged support call and apparently they did the same but now netflix is much better (buffers here and there and not like every 5 seconds).

So question is, did WA did something extra to make netflix stream better?
Just resetting port last night did not help?!

Port reset seems to have fixed line speed

Need some advice on a new ISP. The time has come to depart with Mweb.

Currently: Mweb 4mb uncapped (download ~90gig p/m)

I'm thinking of going WA, the new 120gig capped package. I have a few questions:
1) Does WA have a News services of their own? If so, is it reliably?
2) Are the capped packages shaped?
3) Is throttling frequent?
4) General experiences?

Let me answer 1 and 4 for 4

1. Yes and one can also use IS news server. I have no hassles with them bar the very odd occasion when I have to finish a DL using a paid news sever
4. On the whole I am happy. My one gripe is that on the odd occasion I need to do a DL during the day, speeds can be variable.

Like anything there is the odd time when a glitch creeps in and then I have a back up account so am generally sorted
