What DNS settings did they give you? I am having major speed problems at night, would like to try them as well...
That's because it's nothing to do with your line or port, it's everything to do with your ISP
DNS is the handshake before a download starts, so it can't possibly be the reason for the slowness

Well guessing its the account then, because speeds are up and down a lot, but still not hitting anywhere near where I should. Will have to experiment some more and request a test account from one of the other ISPs
*Goes to check if theres a cool off period when opening an account - might need to cancel

DNS is not a handshake.
DNS is more like an address lookup in a directory, like looking up the phone number in a tellephone book.
That's what I meant
It goes "Hey, who is mybroadband.co.za?" and the DNS Server goes "Oh, It's IP address is 197.242.89.170"After that, DNS has nothing to do with how fast you download from that page. Because you then go directly to that IP address.

DNS can make downloads go faster by pointing you to your ISP's local CDN or cache of the content in questions. However, if that cache or CDN is slow, changing away from your ISP's DNS (and thus going to a different source) may speed your download up.
So... the DNS change didn't make your downloads magically faster, it was going to a server that can provide the content a lot quicker.

A few quick questions:
I have a WD TV Live that I use as a media centre and for streaming ( not Netflix ). It is on my wireless network only and I have a 4Mb Uncapped WA account. I still experience intermittent buffering when streaming documentary channels or Red Bull TV etc.
My exchange is fine and my speed tests look good. Could the buffering be caused by me using wireless instead of LAN cable?

According to dsl console, I have double my normal anytime cap available.

I am on the same account and yes they did. It is in line with their new capped packages and yes I am sure it is permanent. Over the years they have given us these upgrades as packages changed.
Have to say am very happy with these as this will meet my needs easily now that we have the extra day time gigs especially with being on leave next week

Last month, with the 50TB download plus promo, I accidentally left my downloads running and I ran out of cap towards the end of September. It was really painful to try and stream Netflix on my backup account with another ISP. My WA account has always streamed perfectly.
My account is verrry unstable swaps between 2mb and 10 mb a lot, Set about 9gb of downloads as a test between 12am and 5am and they downloaded.
Still no closer to figuring out whether this is an exchange/account issue

No. In that case you override the DNS to point to a different IP from where your download will be coming from. CDN/Cache is a server somewhere with the download there for you, and if it's local, it will be downloaded faster.
Changing your DNS forces it to connect to those, whereas using normal DNS, will take whatever the server gives you as the IP for the download
So DNS does NOT make things magically faster. It's like saying your GPS in your car makes your car go faster. No it doesn't. It just points you in the right direction and tries to navigate you to a faster route
Let us know if it's your line. I doubt it is.
