Web Africa ADSL general feedback

It's quite easy to get your stars. Just stop downloading during the day. Schedule your stuff for midnight.

That's it.
I'm going to have to disagree with that. My usage of roughly 70GB last mont on my 4Mb account brought me down to 3 stars. My current usage for the month so far is 16GB, with the very few downloads I do running after midnight. Still on 3 stars.

Well… when a company no longer even answers phone calls for sales, let alone support it may be time to get out while you still can.

Can anyone confirm whether WebAfrica has gone out of business?

You're using a 2meg line?

2GB on a 4mb Home Uncapped account on the 11th and speeds simply can't go over 1mb. Axxess account runs full speed. Support tickets go unanswered and the phone support is completely nonexistent. Simply no answer.

Who the hell must be felated before service is given? This is pathetic and it's not the first time I've mentioned how pathetic your support is. Get your people to do their goddamned jobs, WA.

I always want to know, the people that complain about uncapped being slow because they have downloaded > 300GB blah blah blah - are those legal downloads or are they pirated movies, series, music, etc? Anyone that complains when doing something illegal should have their head read and be taken out back and pistol whipped. If it's legit downloads then fine, complain away.

How would you like to explain taking 40 minutes to download Minecraft at 4PM on a Saturday afternoon, on a 4MB Home Uncapped account, currently at 2GB for the month and never been below 5 stars in the 6 months it's been active?

To hell with this BS. We're doing a chargeback on the cc. Maybe that spurs them into action for once. I suggest those of you paying via cc do the same so that they sit with a massive administrative nightmare on their hands.

Netflix is badly shaped this evening. Getting full line speed on an OSX update, but some streaming services are dead in the water.
Home capped on a 20Mbit.

If **** like this happens to me (like it has in the past) it's a clear sign that things aren't in control (ISP's sole purpose), and there are "plenty fish in the sea".

Blame yourself for picking an ISP with a calendar month notice policy like openshare, so you're commited to a whole 30 days longer than is really neccessary.

Like Dr Z said earlier, it really seams to boil down to where you are and what ISP works best for you (blame routing), but still, I find it hard for anyone to have a bad experience on the IS network, but I guess you must be in the south :p

I'm on a bog standard home account (10mb, not WA, but Connection) and I can download at 4GB/hour anytime after 5pm weekdays and all weekend no matter what star I'm on (bear in mind that I'm on the DBN IPC network, so apples and pears really at the end of the day).

Last month for example, just by sticking to the 0:00-6:00 window, I moved 450GB and was still on 5 stars, not that actually matters in my life as I only get home after 5, just showing you an example? I have to mention that I'm not a gamer, don't stream in the evenings, so it's very easy for me to stay on 5 stars for those times I'm bunking work or sick or whatever :D

Like I've already said, and it's becoming clearer and clearer (to me at least), that it really counts "where" you are it seems, and how you go through Telkom's network before you get to the ISP's IPC that counts (routing), and at the end of the day, you just have to use what works for you (Axxess in your case although a lot of people would swear at you for mentioning MTN's network right now :p).

From my vast experience of swapping ISP's (yes, I'm such a slapper :p), some don't work straight away (Cybersmart, Mweb), those you drop like a brick, others fall over every now and again (AH, Axxess, basically MTN, and these days, Vox), those you drop too as soon as they falter (the last thing you want to do is go around in circles doing tracerts wishfully thinking things will change), and eventually you find one that suits you (IS (not WA) in my case), but the only way to achieve this is to do the walkabout, and for me, IS is the one network that never has periodic bouts of contention like MTN, VOX, MWEB.

My advice?

I've never liked WA's "priority" shaping policy, so before you dis IS, please try another one like Plugg or Connection.co.za, okay?

All I'm trying to say is YMMV.

10pm and the s*** hits the fan once again.
Line syncing at 7Mb, yet stuck with pathetic "speed" yet again:

I bet you your speeds were awesome over the easter break when all the Vaalies were here in ballito?

I remember you giving AH stick when you were with them about your Telkom issues, and now you doing the same thing here on the WA thread.

We all know that you have a kuk line/exchange/whatever, and we all know that if one is in that situation, you are really at the mercy of telkom, an ISP really has no more weight than you or I when it comes to **** like this.

I feel for you, but your constant posts aren't really relevant to the nature of this or any ISP thread, yes they "manage" the line, all that means is they "manage to get money from you, that's all, don't kid yourself that you're doing yourself a favour when it comes to dealing with Telkom, you want something done right? Do it yourself.

I would hate to be in your situation, but if I was you, I would move my line back to telkom, then to CW, apparently they have super powers, and if that doesn't work, sell your house and move, but please stop with the constant sob story, it's getting old :)

Sorry, don't mean to offend :)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Thanks, you just made my mood take a.swing to the happy side.
If AH and WA's support was top notch and Hellscum techs would actually do some work to fix issues, I would gladly stop posting and moaning.

But since none of those things actually happen, I will continue posting about any bad speeds or line hiccups I have.

I've heard only good things about Crystal Web. Apparently their support are also 24x7!

Fark, im watching them closely...im following their thread daily...i am desperate to sign up..just not sure yet...the only thing that gives me confidence is Paul and DJ, but if things go pear shaped...i dont think they want this red head biach on their arse :p....

And btw, i dont know what my people have done....but we have finally managed to get to 2 stars now...yahooooo....i guess we only got this afar from lack of being able to use our internet for the last month. You know the inet connection is bad when I have to buy data for the husbands phone and he uses that as some kind of router just to be able to connect and play.

Well, I'm glad you're choosing the lighter side of life :) (the other option isn't really an option ;)), but to clarify:

It's not the ISP's fault that you have slow speeds at night, and the fact that they offer to "manage" your line means nothing at the end of the day.

I would hate to ever be in your position, I would sell my house and move to wherever those 123 guys are starting up without hesitation :p
