Web Africa ADSL general feedback

I was also effected last night by die issue. Was very frustrating while playing World of Warcraft.

It was as if all sites, but Google (Youtube, Gmail etc) worked and my Ventrilo connection didn't want to connect. Also got kicked off WoW a few times.

Hope we can see a resolution soon.

Experiencing the same on WA, DSL384 in Cape Town.

Hi guys,

I'm updating our forums with constant updates.

http://forums.webafrica.co.za/showt...PS-sites-failing?p=52765&viewfull=1#post52765

Morning all,

I'm going to try and keep this post as clear and concise as possible.
Yesterday, we experienced a failure on our International HTTPS sites, this was caused due to one of our shaping devices experiencing an issue. This has been resolved however latency is still an issue.

At present, our SAT3 link is down and we are running through our backup SEACOM capacity. Local sites seem to be running fine however our international capacity is degraded.
We'll keep pushing constant updates onto our Status Page, Forums, Twitter and Facebook as soon as they are made available to us.

Our sincere and deepest apologies for the downtime experienced between yesterday and this morning. These will hopefully be sorted out as soon as possible.

Just to update everyone on the current outage notifications.

We're waiting for out upstream providers to resolve latency on International sites as well as a possible upgrade on our end for International traffic. For the mean time, we're running on failover SEACOM bandwidth.
No ETR from our upstream providers as yet.

Sorry about this everyone.

We are actively working with our partners and doing our utmost to restore service to our usual quality levels.

Guys is the redundant Seacom capacity really that bad? It's been 6 minutes and a Unisa page is still loading and I need to have to financial stuff done urgently...

Same experience for me. Seacom is fine if you use an ISP that uses Seacom as their primary route to intl sites. I'm logged in with a prepaid backup Afrihost account (they use Seacom) and the speed is normal. However, on my WA account it is non-usable for intl sites, even though Seacom is used for the failover.

You also have the added problem that during outages, WA gives all home accounts a much lower priority on their network which of course degrades the performance even more. I understand why they do this since their business users require priority on their network but the WA traffic management is so severe that as a home acc user, I now crawl during business hours but after 5pm I will fly again when the low priority implementation is lifted. Same thing happened during the previous WA outage a few weeks ago.

I don't waste my time anymore by doing daily tests to see if the WA network has recovered because the low prioritisation given to home users will only be lifted once the outage has been fully resolved. Only then will the performance be back to normal again. Just have to wait it out!

A backup acc with an ISP on a different backbone has become essential for times like this.

The same thing happened, last month and the month before in last few days of the month-end.

Are you sure you are not throttling to save bandwidth? This sounds suspicious ... for those of us that are around with WA next month, please post your experiences month-end.

We're still waiting for a repair ETA on the SAT3 landing station in Portugal.

I hope this is sorted before tonight as I want to play Battlefield.

Hi all,

We're working on acquiring further capacity over alternative routes to try and keep traffic as normal as possible.
No ETR as yet as we need to rely on the SAT3 landing cable in Portugal to be fixed.

I've got little to no international connectivity. This is kind of ridiculous. There needs to be better redundancy in place.
