Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Also had problems connecting to my game server yesterday evening. Switched to Afrihost and no problems.

Thanks for the feedback Jeff. Maybe because I am not tech savvy, I can't see how this one issue can be the cause of all the various problems

As this thread has made quite clear, I am by no means the only person with problems. I do appreciate that some of my specific issues might be out of WA hands, but just go through the thread and you will see a string of people who are saying there are issues. By asking me what are my problems, you are ignoring all the others who have posted. I do feel that we have made it clear that there are issues with speeds, connectivity, news servers etc. Please could you address these or are you awaiting feedback on them all? Thanks a lot

By no means am I ignoring anyone elses posts. Simply put, the Google caching issues affect all traffic. This was already mentioned in this post
By all traffic I mean browsing, gaming, p2p etc etc etc.
For more up-to-date updates please have a look at our status page thread. Our engineers are updating this with some feedback too.

Unfortunately the issue has returned after the box had finished it's re-sync.

news server speeds are still non existent - using both Astraweb and NewsDemon.

This is really frustrating, seeing that at 5pm it literally increases from 0 KB/s to 400 KB/s.
In light of the google caching issue, it almost seems as if news groups are given zero bandwidth.

Thanks Jeff.

As I have said, and you know I am not a tech person, so need some clarity.

There have been a variety of issues for a while now and if I am reading this right, they are all related to the google caching issue, and when it is sorted, all should be good again? If this is the case, and it has being going on for ages, how much longer before we can hope for normality and good connectivity etc?

If this is just a current issue, I go back to the question that has been asked a few times. Why so many issues with WA and degradation of service levels of late and when will things be back to normal?

I apologise if I am a bit slow on this matter but really do want things back to the much better levels of a while ago.

Been having quite a lot of spikes on my international connection since Thursday evening. And quite a number of disconnects on World of Warcraft due to this. This happening more frequently when the game requires more data packages to be send. Run a speedtest on the line and though Latency is fine at 220ms to Paris, download seems to be way under par (~2.1mb) and Upload even worse at (~0.1mb). Tests were the same on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, have not tested it Today yet.
Switched to my Afrihost account on Saturday and at least the connection were stable from there on. The latency on the Afrihost account is never as good as WA, but at around 330ms with no spikes I was able to enjoy the weekend's gaming. Upload were closer to the 4mb line capacity, though download were only slightly better than WA.
But the reason I pay WA way more than any other ISP were not existent since Thursday, I pay for a premium service to have the best possible gaming experience. I hope this can be sorted out as soon as possible, paying a second ISP to keep on playing is not a long term option.

One thing I don't understand on the slow Google services, Google services is global, not fixed to WA? So why does Afrihost not have the same problem?

Hey Jeff

Any news? I have had to use my telkom account for most of this month, if this keeps up i dont see the point in paying webafrica when iam getting better service out of my telkom account, at half the cost.

Hopefully this is fixed soon as up till now webafrica has been a great ISP and would be a shame to have to move to another.

Morning guys,

This should have been resolved on Friday already. I'll follow up with the engineers quickly to get a status update quickly.

oddly enough my WA has been flawless for the past week, its my afrihost R1 accounts that have been real slow

Morning guys,

Logged my call on Saturday morning. Response were still linked to the Google problems. Usually not worried about the connection to be sorted out fast, but a bit concerned now that you guys think that it is resolved though it is not?

What's slow/ down on your side?
Gaming, P2P, Browsing?

There are no reported issues on this side.

See my earlier post. Gaming is the biggest issue, the rest I can't judge without errors. Latency is fine, ~230ms to Paris, There just is a lot of lag spikes and disconnects while playing. This is worse in cases where more data is required for the game. No problem with Afrihost account in same situations.
Logged the call on Saturday morning, when Internet went completely dead. It was resetted from WA side. I also reported to the Tech support that I have this lag issues since Thursday Evening. He reported that it may have something to do with the google problem, but I should give it some time, or give them a call in some days if the problem still persists. Will log another call this evening when I am home if the problem is still there.

I originally thought the adsl problem were related to the Parys Exchange that have been down a week ago as well. (No idea why it was down) And the no-internet on Saturday morning. But testing using two ISP's this may not be the reason.

Mainly due the dependability when it came to playing WOW latency wise, I have remained loyal to WA the past 6 years. I have monitored latency the weekend and found it quite frustrating as the fluxuation was constantly active. The experiences encountered was almost feeling like being shaped whilst using an unshaped account. The randomness of the huge latency springboard indicated something is amiss and looking into the WA forum showed that Google was targeted as the "culprit", but claiming that it is fixed is far from the truth. Usually these types of matters are resolved, but not this time unfortunately. Resetting routers and systems have not solved my situation.

Online gaming was a big problem this weekend with WA, my WOW had the same characteristic latency spikes as deebee describes. Sitting on 220 then the next 4000 and a lot of disconnections. Browsing was fine though, but youtube was also dead.

Logged in this morning and same thing, huge lagg spikes. Hope it will be sorted when I get home.

Could someone please confirm if they are getting good/bad latency in gaming? My WOW is still all over.

I had the exact same issues in WOW over the weekend... Sunday it got so bad, I ended up raiding with my Mweb account. Tried my Shaped + unshaped account... Same issues as Werries described... Lag spikes resulting in Dc's. Tried with / without a private proxy in London... Dunno what's up, but I hope you guys resolve it soon Jeff. R100 for a gig of bandwidth that's performing horrible, is just not on...

Yea same gaming issues, i cant log into sc2 at all using webafrica. works fine from my telkom account

Please note that we are working with our backhaul providers to resolve high latency and packet loss issues currently being experienced through our International links. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
