Web Africa ADSL general feedback

I find myself often having to press Cntrl F5

Hi there.

I am on Home 50Gb ADSL, I don't peer to peer and the websites I visit the most are news, weather, banking, Youtube and generally surfing the internet. I use the latest Firefox, regularly clean my PC using Crap Cleaner and clear Firefox's web cache content.
I live less than 500m from the exchange and connect at 4Mb.

On most days I browse OK, but often to get a page fully loaded I have to refresh the page or press Cntrl F5.

Does anyone else have the same experience.

Regards,
BTTB.

No problems here. Have you tried rebooting your router? I.e. switch it off for a minute before you plug it back in.

Morning BTTB,

If rebooting your router doesn't help give our ADSL support a call so they can check if everything is 100% on your line and connection.

I wish WA would get the basic product working properly instead of spending time upgrading and changing systems all the time.

I sent an email to support and get some fancy new system that requires me to log in to view my ticket. I am logged in in one area, but can't view the feedback on my ticket. Why they needed to change their old system, who knows. This system is now on top of their horrible new telephone hold system that requires you to listen to WA propaganda :(

Hi Fulton17,

As with all new systems and the integration thereof with our current systems, there will be a few bugs. Our Developers are in the process of ironing out all these issues and you should now be able to view any reply to a ticket via email again.

I do accept that there will be bugs, but this doesn't seem a bug to me as I am required to use my primary email address (which I have never used with WA) and some password. See email response from support

The developers are currently in the process of improving the new support ticketing system and perhaps implement a automatic redirection to the new ticket system via your Customer Services Area.

We do apologize for any inconvenience this is causing in the mean time.

You would need to use your primary authorized email address as the user name to log into the new ticket system, along with the Customer Services Area login password.

What you are saying Justin and what support says seems to be different.

Surely my log in details should be the same as elsewhere on the site. It becomes frustrating as one needs a selection of user names and log in details depending what one is trying to do on your site. If you were customer focused this should just require one user name and one log in. This would make life easier (maybe it is just me with two many user names, passwords etc for all different uses and sites)

Have tried to log in to customer service zone to follow up on support complaint and can't access it, so hence my raising this issue here

I have a 10 meg line (upped from 8 megs to 10 megs two days ago by support) and this is my current speedtest
http://www.speedtest.net/result/2461288498.png. This is a 3 meg line speed.

Trying to DL a file from a news server and I am able to DL at just under 100 kbs. I am on a capped account so should be able to use this as I please (this was an issue a good few months ago and then capped profiles were improved, but seems to have gone backward again). I am assuming WA has capacity constraints during the day and there treated me as a capped user as if I have a WA "uncapped" account.

Just switched to my Lantic capped account and this is the speedtest - Full 10 meg speeds
http://www.speedtest.net/result/2461301373.png.

I signed up for 2mb Uncapped on the 19th.

I am unhappy with the speeds. I asked to cancel account today and WA say I need to give a months notice.

Which means I must pay for feb as well.

Extremely unhappy about this as when I signed up, WA gave me no indication about this.

It will be in the fine print and you would have signed that.

I think most of the ISP's do it these days - but am open to correction. It is a bummer. Just make sure you check with your new ISP what there terms are

Hi Fulton17,

As per my reply on your post on our forums http://forums.webafrica.co.za/showthread.php/11525-Speed-issues?p=78676&viewfull=1#post78676, I have asked our ADSL guys to have a look.

Morning Jeppe777,

We do require a full calender months notice to close any service and the terms can be found at http://www.webafrica.co.za/legal/terms/?full=1#Cancellations.

On the speed issue, have you spoken to support about it and what was the feedback?

Hi Justin.

Sorry for the delayed reply. :p

OK, in essence I don’t really have a problem with most sites, but it is annoying to have to refresh (Cntrl F5) certain pages for the content to be displayed properly. Take this one weather site I go to, by clicking normally (Refresh) it takes a long time to load and when it does finally load not all the data is displayed. A simple Cntrl F5 will however display the data properly and in a shorter space of time and the page will load in full?

Once before reading these forums I encountered a thread which spoke about DNS settings on the Webafrica servers. For instance if I check my router it shows two Domain Name Servers - 196.220.59.188 and 196.220.59.189
I assume this is the standard servers for Webafrica?
One forumite suggested in the thread I mentioned that by disabling the router to get an IP automatically from the server and forcing just the Primary DNS Server, I think 196.220.59.188 in this case, should resolve the issues some people were having at the time.

I could be wrong, but I think that what is happening to me wont be resolved by resetting the router, the problem I think is on your side, possibly the two DNS Servers?

When I change over to another account I have with a different ISP I do not have these issues at all?
Another local site for example that takes ages to load and often needs the Cntrl F5 boost using Webafrica is IOL. If you mouse over the breaking news images, it does not display as the page remains not fully loaded, the refresh button on my browser confirms this.

This situation is not new to me, it is ongoing, I have grown used to it however. :)

Regards,
BTTB.

Ugh...

WA seriously. I can't stream 360p youtube videos on a 7mbit line during the day? The service you guys are offering really has taken a turn for the worst. No, I'm not interested in logging a ticket. Your attempts at solving issues is legendary for all the wrong reasons.

Sounds like it's just you, cause I have no problems doing that on a 1Mbps line even during this time of internetnessless.

Nope, you're wrong. If I switch over to my "free" FNB account, everything flies. It's only WA.

Capped or uncapped?

I was having issues too but this week much better. I think as they have started migrating people to IS, their network has then been able to handle the rest of us OK. But on my capped account, during office hours it used to be pathetic, so yes it is WA

I have sent your a PM with a test account to use and see if there is a difference.

Hi

Been thinking about signing up for a 10MB/s uncapped account. My line speed is 6MB/s though max.

Whats the general feedback like, and also how do the thresholds kick in?

Thanks
