Web Africa ADSL provisional changes (November)

Question:
If you take the 3Gig option at R199 and need to topup before monthend at R75/gig is any unused portion of the topup carried forward?
 
Considering WA is currently the only ISP that seems to be taking legal action against Telkom, I'll keep supporting them for now, I like their service as well.

That was my intention, but I still don't understand how SAOL can offer a 10GB account at R350 when the best WA can do is R570. That's a big, big difference. Either it's not sustainable for SAOL or WA aren't making their best offer.

last I heard ave income was arounf R5k so that would put 1% as R50 (I might be mis-quoting)

I have to mail the communications AUTHORITY of South Africa, and do their job for them? and explain to them, incase they didnt notice, prices are going from R199 for a 30 gig account to R199 for a 3 gig account!!!

WE SHOULDNT be mailing and faxing and phoning ICASA. They should be the FIRST to know of new pricing changes, and the first to regulate them - thats their JOB! HELLO!

But if you want to keep your false hopes up and nag them, go ahead. It wont do you any good.

According to WA's FAQ in post #1 of this thread, the R75/GB topup does carry over to the next month. (Thats only the prepaid topup part, not the normal 3GB, etc).

Fair enough. but that 199 -30gb was a special..........
cant really include a special as evidence.

I agree that that appears to be what WA's FAQ says. But it could also mean that the carry over of prepaid only applies if all your usage is bought at R75/G
 
wamatt are you going to provide unshaped "prepaid / gb"(carryover)? This could be quite popular with the gamers / voipers out there.

Sorry left that off. Updated now. R125 p/gb (unshaped). Yes it does carry over.

wamatt, can we purchase say 1 or 2 topup GB's without buying a 3GB account? I'm going to be out of the country for more than half of November and don't want to buy a 3GB account which will go to waste.

Ok I was wondering about this too. Seemed quite odd as you can't stay in business long taking a knock like that. IIRC they have a "10GB premium" account for R600+ or something. IE pure fibre backbone, normal contention ratios etc. (SAIX backbone) thats what we selling.

Thinking more along the lines of making their users load some vpn/proxy client on their PC.

Dangerous game to play when your soliciting customers from these forums. I'm sure most of the ppl around here roger their caps quite hard every month.
 
@wamatt : maybe you can answer this for me - I notice that after you have been capped on the "SAIX" service, you will still have access to the webafrica homepage. So obviously, as part of the deal, SAIX are now allowing you to exclude IP ranges from the capping services. So my question - do you get charged for traffic to and from this IP that has been excluded? In other words, would you be able to setup a Proxy server for capped users using this method?

Where did I put that Sintech modem ....... reaching for doorstop ....... doing search on HDD for old doggy logins ........

This sucks ....... so is SAOL the best option for the moment ?

SAOL were the first ISP to offer 30 Gig for under R500 - the rest were forced to follow (75 % of our existing clientbase will retain their 30 Gig accounts @ R299 even AFTER 1 Nov) - we use no sinister methods to provide better pricing, we simply have the numbers to be able to play the ISP numbers game - any ISP who has been around since the 90's should know how to work the numbers. Obviously these prices are specials and will be offered on a month to month basis.

We have looked at the IS alternative and decided against it - our clients deserve a better service than that.

SAOL will soon have even better deals available via our own network infrastructure as soon as we can get our IP Connect installed.
