Web Africa Dedicated servers

I'm looking at moving my servers away from Afrihost to Web Africa.

Any of you guys had experience with dedicated server hosting at web africa?

All I can say is that I've had plenty issues with Afrihost and their firewalls.

Web Africa's dedicated servers are either completely unmanaged ie. they install hardware and OS, rest is up to you.
or semi managed. They will install hardware, OS and some backups and help with minor issues and some extra software installs.
You won't get something that is fully managed where you get a control panel for your hosting and they will fix any issue you have.

Oh their servers are in Cape Town.

So if that is what you are looking for, then Web Africa will be fine.

I dont mind managing the servers myself as we run bespoke software on them.

I do however require better service than what I have been receiving at Afrihost.

Do you recon Web Africa has better support than Afrihost?

Everything from nice, 8 months later we still stuck trying to move things away from them.

Basically they got us stuck in a way we pay couple g's pm for ****ty services till we can move everything. Gone all the way up the channels with the issue.. would happily recommend anyone else.

Look at Hetzner or oceanhost

Cant use Hetzner, due to the nature of the software running on the server (eg: Email marketing) they are too strict which means we cannot service our customers correctly.

I also cannot use oceanhost as we run massive SQL DB's and these don't do very well on virtual architectures due the the strange way SQL server uses interrupts.

So basically you are a spammer that wants a host to send spam from?

Nope, We don't intentionally send spam, but we have had situations in the past where a new client would buy a list from somewhere and send junk to those guys using our systems.

We suspend those clients accounts immediately but in general by then we already have our ISP complaining about spam reports.

Cybersmart
IS -- Not sure if they will let you spam though

IS will be super strict about spam but then again, so will most ISPs be.

Afrihost uses IS datacenters and yes, they are.

I will try web africa and see what happens. If they dont work out I'll try one of the other guys. Or perhaps move to international again (I hate that though cause its hard to budget with ZAR / USD exchange rate fluctuations)

WA use to have a bulk emailing service. Not sure what happened to it.

I spoke to a client of mine that runs a marketing mail server. They are with Cybersmart, he said the tech mentioned to him that he will just have to make sure he doesnt get listed. Maybe something to look at.

Yup, that might be a good Idea, will give them a try if WebAfrica disappoints. Thanx FFF

We generally monitor all the BL sites to make sure our servers dont get blacklisted as this obviously impacts our business hugely, so there shouldn't be a problem there.

Your welcome. Alternatively there are ways to do this without getting blacklisted. It may just be something simply with least cost but it will require some R&D.
