Web Africa's new ADSL pricing revealed

Interesting. I just got WAJeff's DOB and Car Registration with like 2 clicks of a mouse. (FFS DONT LABEL ME A HACKER!... and if you do make it sound l33t)

That's impressive. Best I can get with two clicks is pr0n:D:D

but wait there's more you'll get free attitude too.

Notice how Waroop and Wamatt are now AFK, they have adopted their usual head in the sand approach to management. And Krayon, well he's obviously unhappy to have to field all the complaints and questions so he resorts to attitude.

They still take digs at Afrihost whenever they can, yet Afrihost are still there holding the same pricing and offering more 2 for the price of 1.

At the end of the day WA fail, the list of additional things you score are crap, they offer no better service than any other ISPs, in fact in some cases their support is worse. can anyone say Steam schmeam!

They have been promising a price adjustment since September, wait and see, they said, I didn't and I saved myself thousands of Rands. Wait for July, they say - now I think their customer will be saying "Hell No!!!".

Roop and Matt you should be embarrassed, you ignore your customers, you take digs at your competition and you adopt attitude with the community.

to the rest of you out there who are disappointed by the lack of competitive pricing from WA - move away as quickly as you can, don't listen to their empty promises anymore.

i do find it interesting that krayon has been left to fend for him/herself after this announcement. what saddens me about this is that it seems that totally uncapped fastest adsl at a reasonable price is still a fairly long way away.

Please lets not forget this in Dec when doing year round-up articles :) Epic fail of the year, although ICASA is still around...

You know. I can understand that webafrica as company do not have the resources or capital or whatever to suddenly drop their prices that will stun the market and that you are trying to make an effort to bring your prices. So yes kudos to you on that point.

But the simple fact of the matter is that so much hype was caused by your comments of a "big annoucement" of radical new prices, people are obviously pissed off about the new price structure, and its rightly so that they are pissed off. Now its YOUR fault for not quelling the hype about the new pricing structure and its YOUR **** up for not managing your market campaign effectively enough. As a result you have lost customers and are probably not going to profit as much as you think you are and you as a company have ****ed up.

So yes. As people before me will say and probably many more after me.

"FAIL!"

Love the nick! How did you wind up here? Facebook?

what WA is saying is, "as long as we can over charge your moms and pops who use 200MB of a 1GB bundle, we don't care about power users."

Yes, we can only assume so as they are comparing themselves to the likes of Telkom and MWeb...

And what defines a power user really? someone who uses YouTube or an online radio streaming service with a bit of VOIP? That eats AT LEAST 1gb every 2-3 days for me... and that's not even including the work related stuff I do which adds onto that... and not even Farmville on Facebook.... OR watching my daily comics online... is that a "power user" for using 3gb of data in 1 week doing simple web browsing?

OMG, WA should pull their heads out their asses, it's not 1999 anymore

Yeah, i consider what you described average use. A power user is someone like Garyvdh who klaps close to a TB each month:cool:

They did - in 2005... Seems the reputation and following they received has gone to their heads and now they out to milk the people who are not aware of other options...

Huh? We've been active members of the forum for years and always do our absolute best to respond to customer queries head on. Today we ensured almost every question was responded to and as promptly as possible (while juggling our usual work load). This statement is hardly fair Igloonaut?

i do find it interesting that krayon has been left to fend for him/herself after this announcement.
He wasn't and I'm still kinda peeved at his comment about certain of us not being needed or fitting into WA's "vision" anymore. There have been a few heated things mentioned here in this thread, and I of all people know how emotions can get the better of you. BUT somebody who is the marketing manager for a company like WA should know a hell of a lot better than to do that.

I was planning on typing up a letter tomorrow to WA about this. But realised I have a day full of meetings so by the time I get around to it there will more than likely be another 20 pages to this thread and doubt if WAMatt would even bother reading it. So I might as well try before heading off to bed.

As I had mentioned I personally didn't think the deals offered were to bad, at least on the package deals. Its the prepaid that really sucked. No two ways about it. And guess what. I use prepaid. At least personally. Granted its not a lot and maybe my money doesn't mean much. Its usually around 2-3 gigs international, 1 gig Unshaped, and 10-30 gigs of local. Of course then there is my companies account of 5 gigs which I had phoned WA on friday and had asked them to change it to a 10 gig a month account, and a few friends who if I phone tomorrow trust me enough to move to whoever I tell them to move to, they will. ANd who ever they tell.. its a ripple effect that's going to hurt

I've only jumped ship once, and that was from Telkom, to WA. Maybe I was lucky enough to have been able to have tried out Axcess (sucked), SAOL (sucked) & Openweb (Sucked) at work so I never bothered at home. Oh and I cant forget M-web, Of course I never really moved to them. I was with Icon originally, who got bought about about 4-5 times before MWEB finally grabbed the then holding company (tiscali If I remember right?). I sure as hell didn't planrf on jumped ship when I read this post this morning (and going back through my posts here you will see how I laughed at others saying they where going to do just that)

WA have always been good. To me the biggest thing was the prepaid options at decent rates. Yes it wasn't the cheapest, never has been. But it allowed me to top up as and when I wanted. It gave ME the control. If I wanted to use 1 gig a month I could, If I wanted to download 15 gigs, I could do that was well. Though unlike all the other people who use all the free allocated BW from Mweb, and Telkom and who else knows where. I was prepared to PAY for what I wanted. From a business perspective I can also understand WA wanted to have more of a fixed monthly income. Something they can control and know whats going on from a financial point other than hope the small people like me buy at least 3 gigs a month (at a premium rate). I was and still am prepared to pay for what I use because it was convenient and worked for me.Even if I have to pay for mu 30 gigs of local a month that others get free.

Though now to me, it seriously seems as if Krayon's attitude is that is that I don't fit into WA's new niche market. I never expected afrihosts R39.00 gig prepaid. I would actually of been very happy with the R59.00 as I first saw per gig, Until I realised it was a full package deal, and prepaid only change R1.00.! The local and Unshaped deals are still pretty good for me and would of saved quiet a bit, So I could of overlooked it as well and waited until July to see what happened.
But Krayon's post REALLY REALLY peeved me off. Even if it was aimed at somebody else and he says he is sorry. As a marketing manager ( for a company that I respected, and have promoted for the last few years) I would of expected that he knew what to do in situations like this, and know when to just shut up instead of letting emotions get involved. (As I am now)

To be honest. I still don't want to jump ship and leave WA. Which is why I am glad I am typing this now. Hopefully tomorrow when I have got out of meetings there will be those extra 50 pages to read. Maybe somebody would of been able to salvage it a bit. For the new Tier 1 company in our community, I would really of expected WA to not only of thought where it wants to go, But also to remember where it came from. To remember who made it what it was. Sure, it wasn't all me. But I helped, Just as everyone else did. Plus the 50 people I got to move over, and the 50 they go, etc.

Hopefully... and I really am, hopeful, there will be some small excuse or reason to make me change my mind and hold back to see what happens in July. But if the attitude remains as it is. I doubt it. Somehow.. I actually don't even expect a reply from anyone at WA to this post at all either. But one can hope
