Web Africa's new ADSL pricing revealed

I based it on the following:

Which other questions would you like me to answer isp-insider?
attitude... yup this is why i have not purchased any other services from web africa - it was your attitude that put me off.

in any case

why is it that your dedicated clients are paying substantially less per gb than what you are charging us "elite mybb users"

Every other isp in the country charges more for datacenter traffic considering the quality (QOS) needs to meet higher standards than that of ADSL bandwidth yet Web Africa are the first in South Africa's history to do it the other way around.

is this your way of ripping off those that only spend a certain amount (below R2000 per month per service) with Web Africa?

Unfortunately that does seem to be the case, really dissapointing... b.t.w when are WA planning to trade mark "going live soon"? it's used often enough.
lols, do your sites keep crashing?

spar is different to pick n pay who is different to woolworths.
that would make Web Africa the equivalent to Woolworths. The staff think they're better than the others even though they sell the same ****, except its re-branded as being better but at double the price. EPIC FAIL

All companies are not alike, spar is different to pick n pay who is different to woolworths. Each has their own stategy and niche market.

To customers looking for a complete option, we are there company, for people like yourself who are only interested in large amounts of data we will not look as appealing.

What would you consider large amoounts of data? You have offered slight discounts to the same crappy packages that have been around for years. When we helped stress test your network during the trial there were a number of threads on the WA forum on new and innovative packages that could be done. You guys participated on those threads. When you needed us for testing there was no mention of us being a niche market. You never mentioned that you were going "mainstream" and would be targeting the "moms and dad's". You guys set up the expectations and it was the reason I checked everyday for some news on the new pricing and it is the reason why today is a disaster for WA.

But maybe it makes financial sense for you guys to cater for the "mom & pops". Maybe its time for you guys to move on from here and we can go on and support companies like GConnect, Sainet, Afrihost etc that are willing to innovate for us "Niche" users.

Sad day for me as a WA supporter. I have looked past their lack of support. Looked past their mistakes and many days of no service delivery with endless unresolved tickets, yet we pay the full month, each month.

As I said. They looked at their clients and gave a slobbery spit in our faces.

It will be my duty as an employee not to allow my employers to sit with this sub standard nonsense any longer.

I hope WA learn from this. We won't stick around to wait if they do.

@ Linoman,

Let's assume you are on a 3GB package, at 29* per GB = R87 +152 for your line = R239 per month * remember this is a special rate
Our combination offer works out to R249. This is not a special, this is our standard pricing.

That is only a R10 difference in reality.

As for the advantages of being with Web Africa:

DSL console for monitoring usage
Prepaid topups never expire
Having 1 monthly account for line and bandwidth
24/7 dedicated adsl support
Auto top ups
Sms notifications
DSL Secure
FreeZone
Steam Content Server (going live soon)
Reliable network
No contract periods
Free Gaming Service

Hope this answers your question.
People can keep choosing to ignore the line cost, but it is real and we do compete well when all costs are factored in.

You can get a 3GB package with 50GB local with SAOL for R249. So with Webafrica you pay the same for less. Also Telkoms do2 package is R258 for 3GB international and 20GB local. Also, how much does a top-up cost on the 3GB account? More than twice the amount of other ISP's...so the more you use, the more you lose...no thanks. Not competitive at all or "aggressive" as the CEO said earlier. Webafrica should have just left the pricing the same and took whatever money they could while they went by unnoticed. Announcements of "new aggressive pricing" such as these only cause people to jump ship when they realize how badly they are being fleeced, while also causing bad publicity through word of mouth.
Offerings like this are going to keep SA in the dark ages with people thinking 3GB for R250 is the norm. We need more uncapped offerings. I'm getting a R499 uncapped account (including line) rather than pay R249 for 3GB... A friend from work signed up with SAOL 384kbps uncapped and has got 40GBs in less than 2 weeks.

Really? You are an ADSL reseller. This means you (WA) do not pay Telkom R152 per month for line rental, but rather R152 - X per month. Sure, X may be quite small, but this is still supposed to give you a competitive advantage, which you could be passing on to the consumer.

What do we, the users, get in return for going for your ADSL complete packages? In theory, we should get better service. In practice, I have actually had pretty poor support from WA. When I first joined in 2007, my ADSL line activation took more than a month (closer to 6 weeks). I fired off a complaint against Telkom to HelloPeter. A Telkom representative phoned me within minutes. That same day we established that WA never submitted a request for my ADSL line activation. Horror of horrors, it was not Telkom's fault! The irony is that I would have had my line activated in less than a week if I leased the ADSL line directly from Telkom.

So the superior support that WA claims to offer is not perfect.

Cavedog: While WebAfrica are not quite there yet, they do come close to satisfying my modest needs.
I shall reserve judgement until July.

Just an FYI, from now till July, you could have triple the bandwidth per month for the same price WA is raping you by just switching ISP's.... and most ISP's these days don't lock you in contracts, so it might be for your own benefit, to cancel your account and switch to someone like Afrihost and wait till July.... and THEN either re-activate your account or just keep on using what you've already grown accustomed to use...

Afrihost may have dug into their marketing budget to provide the special, but they won't mind since you're providing free marketing for them.

You just can't buy publicity like this...
So true. Every second post has "Afrihost" somewhere in it. THAT's how you run a business: mass produce / buy wholesale in bulk, and then sell it to the consumer for a good price and let that become the standard for the consumers to compare every other product on the market against.
Seems WA has gone "ANC" route opting for profit gain over service value. At least that's the impression you get when you see a R1 / 10% price decrease or read some of the posts here from their representatives. We all know how well that sort of approach turns out where there's competition/choice and the people buying the product care where they put their money...
It's actually difficult to discuss the Facts without in turn 'hurting' WA (or 'praising' Afrihost) -- neither emotional connotation is my intention (I dont actually have any account with either), but seriously they've set this up for themselves (I just can't understand how they didn't see it coming...? Maybe they just don't care... I guess their balance sheet must be quite satisfying and they obviously don't think a few thousand MyBB members mean much to them?)

yep. we all wanted cheezeburgrz pricing for big macs, but got double cheeze instead.

sorry to go all nazi grammar on you, but should the second comma in your quote be a semi-colon?

Seriously? Good support...my line is with webafrica, lightning strikes my line in december...logged a fault, two days later no feedback. WTF i have to phone telkom anyway! surprise surprise, nothing logged for my line!
Logged it but lost two days anyway? Moving my line back tomorrow.

Cheers WA. chat to you in July but by the looks of it maybe not?
