Web Africa's new ADSL pricing revealed

Here is a look at our per gb rates across all plans excluding standard line cost pricing:

Plan 1:R17 per gb
Plan 2: R32 per gb
Plan 3: R39 per gb
Plan 4: R31 per gb
Plan 5: R32 per gb
Plan 6: R37 per gb
.

Why is the cost per gb more, the more you use on the complete packages?

Also competitive my ass. Telkoms do broadband with 5gb traffic on 4mb is cheaper per gb. ;)

I'm not too sure why there's so much anger here. If you don't like the prices, don't use their services.
People are upset because WA asked them to hold on until Feb, which they did. Now they realise that they haven't been awarded for their loyalty.

@ rsd, whether you are with Telkom or Web Africa you will be charged R152 for your adsl line at the moment. Web Africa could be your line provider and your data could be with Afrihost for example.
Nobody is tied into anything, no contracts, transferring a line is only a support ticket away.

A lot of effort for no reasonable gain...

drum roll - what smooth words is waroop gonna use to calm down the masses or has this gone too far?

UNSHAPED PRICING ON WEBSITE

Their website still states R125 for 1GB unshaped!!!!

Yes from that point of view it is a good thing. Not everyone wants 2 or 3 ISP's though. Having to log in to each account. Monitoring them on all the different PC's etc... If you can offer such great Complete packages then why do your Data packages fall so short?

@kyron

I think you are failing to see what people want..they are not interested in the bundles..people are interested in the per GIG offering and your price is rather sad...thats it...

Ok, I'm the laziest person in the world with regards to admin. Transferring a line would be fine if the benefits are worth it, but with Afrihost's pricing it just doesn't make sense.

The day WA launches unmetered bandwidth on steam content servers and on a news server I'll be there. Until then I'm only interested in price.

I will still recommend WA to anyone I know who isn't technically inclined and just wants ADSL with no hassles. The complete packages and support will definitely benefit the IT-challenged, but for "power users" there's nothing compelling yet.

No he's choosing not to address the issue - commonly known as a decoy / change of topic

At the risk of playing devil's advocate, there are two distinct groups of ADSL users. People who frequent MyBB are a lot more likely to be power users and yes, they're only interested in the price per gig. I don't think WA are failing to see what people want at all, they're just not, currently, offering what you want. The majority of ADSL users want a 1 price solution to compare to the 1 price solution of Telkom / MWeb.

I do think if WA had to do a staggered launch they've done it the wrong way round. I think dropping prepaid prices first would have been the better route to take.

Funny...

After reading the article I checked the date to make sure its not April 1st.

I have been with Web Africa since they had their first 30gigs for R199 special in 2005. The price for 1gig prepaid was R70 compared to any other ISP they were EXPENSIVE, I waited when they asked us to wait for their big announcement...

Just sent through my cancellation form and will only be using my Afrihost account.

Bingo!

The South African broadband market is tired of these 'crafty' packages. No 'this is included' or 'if you do this' or 'bewteen this and that time' bull. Just give us a plain R/GB model.

The problem is that WA basically made it's name on this forum in 2005, and now they've done a u-turn and gone after the Mweb market. Some might feel insulted that they're not being taken seriously anymore after supporting them for all this time.

If the MyBB community wants cheaper per-gig pricing, why not give it to them?

Wow going by the reaction on here WA could be losing a few customers. I do hope they learn from this mistake and that the only way to make a splash in the market is with very competitive prices or innovative packages neither of which they have delivered.
