Web Africa's new ADSL pricing revealed

Not all are pissed off maybe 95% are :)

I think the main problem WA has is that it invensted in this tier 1 network and for them to sustain that they can't take a massive revenue knock by reducing their 30 000 + base subscribers.

We are the tech savvy guys and find it unacceptable compared to other offerings. But a mailer going out to 30 000 + people might make them very happy. Remember they are not informed and will be happy with the reductions.

This was a pure business decision from WA based on sound research of their consumer base.

We might be unhappy but the most uninformed people from their current subscriber base will disagree.

I still say give them time, though this might of hurt their reputation on MyBB. :(

I think the thing to take away from this is that WA is no longer interested in MyBB users. I guess they'd prefer to sell complete packages to people who only use half the available bandwidth. They are a company trying to make money after all.

Unless they pull a rabbit out of somewhere they have definitely destroyed their reputation with more knowledgeable users.

If I was Afrihost I would use this to my advantage and really push a advertising schpeel. With maybe even another small price drop now people will move over in their 100's
I've sent a nudge to Afrihost telling em to take look.
Tomorrow's headline on MYBB may read "Afrihost new ADSL pricing revealed : R15 PGB"
Oh no wait, this is MYBB where Tagg and RPM have a relationship.

Tagg, you're it

Thats exactly what happened, and thats why its so important mybb members actively work to get their friend and family to change isp's. The more noise made the better.

The weird thing is, everybody keeps saying that Afrihost is selling at below cost, but I heard rumors that this was infact not true. Afrihost makes a small markup on the R29 per GB account, they only sell below cost when they do the 2 for 1 promotion. I kind of believe the rumor because Afrihost has been allowing signups for their R29 per GB account from last year and still allows sign ups, the sign up now to get your hand on the cheap account is a marketing gimmic and it worked. I have never looked back upon my decision of moving from WA to Afrihost, and I am glad I didn't stick round and wait for the new pricing from WA.

And I guess the more GB they sell I guess the beeter rate they will be able to obtain as well from IS

Some 1 create a Facebook group "Web Africa has **** pricing" and we take this 2 facebook :P

Yes please..can someone put this onto FACEBOOK,more of the WA clients that donot partake in this forum will come to know about the rip off

So true but the flaw lay in the fact that you becoming known in the industry as a expensive ISP, and from there onwards it's downhill all the way.

Agreed. People can rant all they like, but companies are only going to react to a change in their subsciber numbers.

its also very easy to hate on us. But yes we've put a lot of money into our new network. What about the other large providers? We are the only ones dropping prices.

And we committing to dropping them again mid year.

Wow what an anti climax!!
WA is all hype and no delivery!!!
All they do is string clients along with promises and mybe's...

I think that they suffer from illusions of grandeur ...

They say the pricing is for support but from my experience they should change their slogan from smart made simple to .... I have escalated your query to our engineers....please wait and wait and wait...blah!

Has the industry magically changed overnight? No. What about everyone else? Telkom, Mweb, Cybersmart, Axxess etc. Yes Afrhiost have a great special, but it's simply that, a special marketed below cost.

Huh? So because those ISPs haven't dropped their prices, its justifies what pricing structures you have? So what about Sainet, G-Connect. MyISP? Are they all marketing below cost? In addition the Afrihost "special" has been running for quite some time and Sainet are splitting bandwidth for the client now with Rollovers!!

I was personally hoping WAs per/gb structure was going to be a bit more competitive enough to make me switch over. Especially since after the trial 10GB, I was pretty chuffed. But yeah thats the way the cookie has crumbled :(

The other providers have their market. Axxess for the high end user with their uncapped offerings, Cybersmart for the low end users, and Afrihost 'apparently' running at a loss to provide cheap per-gig rates.

The big issue here is that WA have now lumped themselves in the Telkom and Mweb market, and that's a bit of a no-no on these boards.

Wow... Ive been waiting more than 3 months for this? Extremely dissapointed.... Now we have to wait another 3 months?

I'm sorry to say but I will be looking to move from WebAfrica for anything ADSL related... Hosting wise I will still stick with them... Because their prices are competitive... But seriously this is pathetic.

Completely understand all the expenses that WA has gone through to become Tier 1, but if they cant provide competitive prices, why did they bother? R59 a gig is so 2009 ;) Its time to get with the times...

Err, fail! You arent the only ones dropping your prices. You're the only ones dropping your prices on certain items hoping that it will benefit your reputation. Afrihost (the other large provider, in case you werent aware) have dropped their prices substantially.
Why should the consumer pickup the bill for your investment into infrastructure? You're starting to sound like the government after they spent millions on the roads in time for FIFA.
Now this thread has officially become an EPIC WA FAIL!

Hi Guys

Firstly I know a lot of people are disappointed. But I don't think this is a joke at all we are being very agressive on complete pricing.

The other thing is we wanted to combine the two phases of reductions which would have been more dramatic but operationally there is not enough time to get the systems in place to support the new features.

Has the industry magically changed overnight? No. What about everyone else? Telkom, Mweb, Cybersmart, Axxess etc. Yes Afrhiost have a great special, but it's simply that, a special marketed below cost.

Dear Matthew Tag (CEO - WebAfrica)

Thanks for taking the time to respond, and having the balls to face all the anger, disgust, injury and disppointment. Respect.

On to business.

1. Has the industry magically changed overnight?
Yes the industry has changed. Not overnight, but over the last 4-5 months, which is a significantly long time, almost half a year. If you did not notice this change, then you are either lying to us, or you have been in a really long deep coma. Welcome back. Thanks for confirming to us that the pricing is not a joke though. Most people here had to do a double check on their PC calendars to make sure we hadn't hit April 1st as yet.

2. What about everyone else? Telkom, Mweb, Cybersmart, Axxess etc.
What about everyone else indeed? What do you mean by this? We all had grown to think of WebAfrica as a leader and innovator. It seems you have lost the plot in the last year, and now only worry about everyone else. This is rather sad and weak.

3. Afrhiost have a great special, but it's simply that, a special marketed below cost.
R29 per GB from Afrihost, when launched, was special. It is now the new standard. R29 per GB is also just the base price. We are now topping up with Afrihost at R14.50 per GB!!

There are many ISPs that are selling bandwidth even cheaper than R29 per GB. We have GConnect at R14 per GB, myISP at R20 per GB, Screamer at R23 per GB, SAINET at R29.50 per GB. Then we have the cheaper 384K all in one uncapped accounts from SAOL, SAINET and others, which brings the pricing down to R8 - R15 per GB. Then we have Cybersmart with all it's wonderful innovative little add-ons (nightrider, cap saver etc) that brings the cost per GB to R20 - R30 depending on how you use it.

Heck, even iBurst have done better on the per GB pricing (when you look at it closely) - which is a real shock!

Because everyone has already dropped there prices.

I do think people are overreacting though. The DSL complete packages are the cheapest AND for the average person they are the most important thing. But for the power/advanced users the WA offer is pretty terrible.

WA Joke

In that case i'm thinking the 100 x 30 gig accounts were released in an effort to quieten the loudest voices in the mybb community.

Only too true!
A very good reason to move from our work account from them!!
:wtf::wtf::wtf:

If myBB & RPM has even a shred of credibility, they will write another article reporting on the shock, disappointment and disgust expressed by the myBB community about this new pricing fail. We feel totally insulted by this. Now that is something to report on.

If myBB don't do it.. Then I have lost all faith in myBB and RPM's ability, dedication and commitment to the community.

Dude, relax, money walks, just change to afrihost and be done with it. There's really no need for anyone to justify these prices, we all know they suck so just move on.
