Hi Guys
Firstly I know a lot of people are disappointed. But I don't think this is a joke at all we are being very agressive on complete pricing.
The other thing is we wanted to combine the two phases of reductions which would have been more dramatic but operationally there is not enough time to get the systems in place to support the new features.
Has the industry magically changed overnight? No. What about everyone else? Telkom, Mweb, Cybersmart, Axxess etc. Yes Afrhiost have a great special, but it's simply that, a special marketed below cost.
Dear Matthew Tag (CEO - WebAfrica)
Thanks for taking the time to respond, and having the balls to face all the anger, disgust, injury and disppointment. Respect.
On to business.
1. Has the industry magically changed overnight?
Yes the industry has changed. Not overnight, but over the last 4-5 months, which is a significantly long time, almost half a year. If you did not notice this change, then you are either lying to us, or you have been in a really long deep coma. Welcome back. Thanks for confirming to us that the pricing is not a joke though. Most people here had to do a double check on their PC calendars to make sure we hadn't hit April 1st as yet.
2. What about everyone else? Telkom, Mweb, Cybersmart, Axxess etc.
What about everyone else indeed? What do you mean by this? We all had grown to think of WebAfrica as a leader and innovator. It seems you have lost the plot in the last year, and now only worry about
everyone else. This is rather sad and weak.
3. Afrhiost have a great special, but it's simply that, a special marketed below cost.
R29 per GB from Afrihost, when launched,
was special. It is now
the new standard. R29 per GB is also just the base price. We are now topping up with Afrihost at R14.50 per GB!!
There are many ISPs that are selling bandwidth even cheaper than R29 per GB. We have
GConnect at R14 per GB,
myISP at R20 per GB,
Screamer at R23 per GB,
SAINET at R29.50 per GB. Then we have the cheaper 384K all in one uncapped accounts from SAOL, SAINET and others, which brings the pricing down to R8 - R15 per GB. Then we have Cybersmart with all it's wonderful innovative little add-ons (nightrider, cap saver etc) that brings the cost per GB to R20 - R30 depending on how you use it.
Heck, even iBurst have done better on the per GB pricing (when you look at it closely) - which is a real shock!
