Web Africa's new ADSL pricing revealed

I would have been moooore than happy with even a R20 drop per gig on your prepaid accounts...yes, it will not have been the cheapest, but it would at least have brought you inline with the other ISP who dropped their prices ages ago.

I was NEVER expecting a drop to afrihost's prices..that was unrealistic, but R1 drop....really?

We are aligning more on complete because this is easier for the mom's and pops. They just want one price and for good value. This is what we give them.

Now as for the downloading power users like yourself, we are trying to figure out how to make that work. Yes you going to be disappointed with the data offering but this is the start. Look at what we did in hosting. We already set the prices as the market leader there. Because we could. Now I don't want to set the expectation that we will always be the dirt cheapest ISP at any given time but overall we will always be competitive.

So what you're really saying is that your company is more interested in snaking moms and pops out of their hard earned cash than staying competitive and giving fair pricing. WebAfrica rather rips off the moms and pops because they're not aware of the AfriHosts out there selling at R14.50/gig.

A simple fact : Nobody likes being ripped off. WebAfrica is not only ripping people off, but they are boasting about it.

Are you trying to tell us that the impact that Seacom had was only about ~10%? (That is how much bandwidth you are adding on the shaped packages).

Cybersmart and Telkom Do Broadband have been beating your One Price accounts for months/years now. Your prices are barely inline with the competition now, not a great improvement.

The rest of your prices are a huge disappointment.

If you cannot afford to pass your savings on to us by now, how can we trust that you ever will?

Personally, I think you and your entire staff need to go to a drawing board and ask yourselves this question:

"How can we offer sub R30 per gig accounts and survive"

If you cannot answer that question, your future is very, very bleak. Love it or hate it, ~R30 per gig has become the norm. Adapt or die.

Dear Matt --you might just come to think that today was the most important day in WA, like when Vista was given the boot by the windows community and came up with Win 7.
So I guess until your team looks at being close to R25/R30 per gig, Webafrica is really going to go down slowly.

Hey, you know what WA? Why don't you just take me off the list for the R199.00 / 30 Gig promotion. I don't think it would be fair of me to make use of it after all the bitching I have done in this thread... and it looks like you guys could use the savings more than me. In retrospect it looks like it had very little to do with rewarding MyBB users and a lot more to do with a PR exercise. I don't really feel like being your plaything. I'll just stick with Afrihost. Thanks! :)

WA : Please do, the man is in pain.

Is it not possible to cater to Mom & Pops and Power Users? I am not a power user but I have no need for support and I'm sure there are plenty of people who know how to put in their user name into their router.

Strip out all the "Mom & Pop" costs and create a Power User package. Cheap(er) bandwidth with no access to support and other extras and you might have a winner.

I think you're just trying to stall so you can milk the loyal\stupid customers for as long as you can.
Well I know I am not moving. But I am thinking of getting a Afrihost prepaid when my last top up runs out this week.

As to the supporting loyal customers.. I just hope that extends to more research than 1 year 20 post forumites next time :D

Sigh, extremely poor poor. I've been a big WA supporter for about 1 1/2 years and then they come with this. Sorry that R70 i gave you for pre-paid will be my last. Atleast drop it down to R40-R45 a gb. Afrihosts speed has been just as good and not a single problem yet. GL HF trying to stay afloat

All the nerdrage is a little uncalled for.

For me personally :

I dont touch steam
I dont play any of the games hosted on WA servers
I dont need good intl latency
I dont call ISP support unless I really have, which is almost never.
I couldn't care less about the DSL complete offering.

Right now there is NO reason whatsoever for me to pay R50 a GB when I can pay less than R30/GB at Afrihost. I also believe that by doing this I am doing my part to keep the competition alive between the ISP's - I do realise that they are making this a very tough market to be in, but I got enough problems of my own to worry about that.

If WebAfrica want to put themselves in the same camp as the other large ISP's then thats cool, I am certainly not going to switch to another ISP which charges the same as WA is now.

I will be reducing my 5GB account to a 1GB, and then put my money into Afrihost or something.

Surely some clever marketing dude at WA could have seen this reaction coming ? And that quite possibly a LOT of subscribers will be doing the same thing.

Un-farking-believable!!!

Fark you WA.I just cancelled you out of my life.
And to think you try to buy your way out of this mess. It's a good thing i didn't take part in that 30gb promotion.

You have just managed to turn me into a Telkom Do customer.

DITTO ! - Cannot agree more. I will also not be moving away from WA, being with them for at least the last 6-7 years. Now only if they can measure and reward loyalty (and yes, I do have a dog as well) There is a lot more to this industry than just per GB price.

Prices on WA Website

@ wamatt

Why has nobody bothered to change the prices on your website yet??

Titanic was on etv last night.......

Was this new pricing the iceberg and the ship WA? What was the point of that movie again.....something about big things that CANNOT sink.....

I'm actually gonna rant abit, now that WA are punting their DSL complete so much.

I got a 192kbps line way back, which became a 384K line and atm I am paying R150/month just for that line. Now there is no way I can enjoy a line + 1GB for R169, unless I cancel my ADSL line with Telkom and then get DSL complete through WA.

...

WTF. Not gonna happen, there is something wrong with the above described picture.

Well...it seems that perspective is seriously lacking in here. Today I read on MyBroadBand that WebAfrica is giving me an entire extra GB for NO extra charge. That means instead of 5GB for R290, I am now getting 6GB for the same exact price. Please tell me how this news is supposed to make me upset? YES, there are cheaper alternatives out there, but the fact is you can chose to leave WA or you can chose to be happy about GOOD news. There will always be cheaper alternatives out there, so stop dissing everything, even the good things!
