Web Africa's new ADSL pricing revealed

Even better, as someone suggested earlier in this thread, come clean now, and announce the July prices.

That probably depends on the reaction to this announcement. If it goes well for them, they will probably keep it simliar and if goes badly they will have to make changes...

Sorry, my bad. I feared it might get lost amongst all the... not-so-pleasant posts.

Thanks for the info. I'll happily wait for a response. :)
I honestly don't think there will be any just yet.

If I was CEO of WA, there would of been an email in all of the WA staff's mailboxes this morning instructing all them to refrain from any further comments to this thread, regardless of how much they want to, until further notice from the CEO. Some others who would of been called in and given a slap on the wrist, told them they should of known better to get emotional on a forum such as this, and sent back to their desks. Then Damage control would be taking place reading through all the BS in this thread trying to find out which of the comments are valid and what can be done if anything

EDIT: It also might not be found until MyBB fixes the links to posts, and then the goto new post button. RPM help :D

It Speaks!!!

Ya, thanks rpm, but this post might have done a lot more good if you had posted it this time yesterday. Right now, it is too little too late.

I can understand people's frustrations in this thread for several reasons... most of which are cumulative.

1) All the hype and build-up to this announcement. Just like with Seacom, this announcement was built up (fairly or unfairly) to be a major earth-shattering event. WA themselves were telling people to hold on for the announcement. When it turned out to be a major wet fish announcement people were justifiably upset.
2) add to that the length of time people have waited for this. We were all waiting for WA to adjust to the changes in the market months ago, now this announcement is just too late and too little.
3) The insulting pricing and the insulting replies in this thread from WA. I mean seriously, a R1 drop in price in prepaid bandwidth? R5 would have been better or even R10. Or if they could not afford it, just say so and leave it at R70. But a R1 drop is no better than them putting a photo of a guy on their website with his middle finger extended. It is just a big F you to all their loyal customers. It is them telling us we are stupid and must just take the little bone they throw us. Then you have them making cocky comments in this thread to users and telling us that we are no longer their target market. It is another slap in the face. Basically they are trying to find a nice way to tell us "look we don't really want to do business with you guys anymore".
4) The timing of the 30Gb for R199 promotion (which has not even been finalised yet). Now it just seems like it was all a big PR stunt and had little to do with actually rewarding MyBB users. They way it was run ended up being no better than a raffle.

It doesn't take much for a Provider to drag their name through the mud. We saw that last year with Mweb and now WA have basically destroyed years of reputation overnight. That is not our fault, it is theirs. It would have been better for them to be honest and say ahead of time "look guys, the pricing announcement is coming, but don't expect too much, we are not in a position right now to do anything major" ... just tell the truth. people appreciate that a lot more than being dragged around by a ring in their noses. Even now they could have said "look guys, we know this is not much, we are sorry, but we hope to do more soon by July. This is the best we could do right now and we are sorry if we disappointed you or wasted your time". Honesty pays. Deceit does not.

This just about sums it up for me
I am a WA subsciber and will remain one until the end of the month.
If you want loyalty buy a dog

Agreed, but if they announce the July prices now, nobody is going to complain if they cut the rates again come July.
IMHO, much of the anger on this thread is because of the insulting delay tactics they pulled, making us wait for the "big announcement".

This is what i heard when WA announced their prices

dont worry about the picture close your eyes, just listen...lol 30 seconds of it is fine

ya, everyone complaining about the R1 price drop on their package.

the package i got did'nt even get a price drop..lol...how do you think i feel?

not surprised as i've pointed out. however R70 instead of R125 for the multirealm unshaped would have been nice.

I see the word loyal being tossed around an awful lot here. If paying double to triple for bandwidth at WebAfrica is what you call loyal, perhaps you are using the wrong word to describe your irrational actions.

The fact of the matter is that this is an extremely price sensitive industry. If another company is to come out and offer 7r/gig I'll jump ship in a second. As good as AfriHost's prices are right now - that is the primary reason why so many people are using their service. I don't quite think loyalty or supporting a company just for the sake of it has anything to do with it.

On that thought... if you want to be loyal to a fellow mybb member, I can send you my bank account details. And you can be loyal to me and support me too. Or you can bend over for WA, just like a loyal WA customer would do. :-)

Or you can do what most people do and just go where the best prices / gig at good speeds are. AfriHost is the clear winner (for now). Rest assured, that can change at any given moment.

OK, I agree 'loyal' may not be the right word.

For sure it's a price sensitive market, I have personally been with Afrihost for a couple of months, have convinced my boss to move as well. Money talks!

The reason for not moving the business account was due to the fact I could not vouch for the service level of Afrihost, until used for a while.

The quality of WA's network and speed has been good, but now the huge price difference on the high caps talks louder!

I ain't gonna bend over for no-one!!

Of course the stability of any ISP's network could change anytime! As long as the ISP manages their contention ratios properly, etc, etc (not just as simple as that) shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Hi folks

I agree with the post above. While you may not like Web Africa’s new pricing, personal attacks and unfounded accusations are not welcome. We encourage discussions regarding the various offerings in the market, but please keep it civil.

I think most people will agree that Web Africa has been a great supporter of MyBroadband over the years, and they have always been very active in the forum to assist consumers, so please don’t let one announcement undo all the good in the past!

It only takes one time to break all trust. Not sure if you date much, but in any relationship, once your partner cheats, it is very very very very very very very hard to move on from that and/or not question every single move they do at all. Never mind how big their boobs are, or how good their blow jobs might be (lol, referencing "support levels" there in my own spechul way). It will always be in the back of your mind that they cheated on you, and whenever they're "out with the girls" or "going to buy milk" you question them as to why it took them so long or why they only came back 3 hours after they said they would...

Show WA how you feel by taking your business elsewhere. The same goes for the rest upset about this.

We as the consumers do actually have to power to change things.

If we all take our business to AfriHost they will be able to get even better pricing as they buy more. Plus in all likelyhood if people leave WA in the hordes (as currently appears to be the case) - they will 2 options : drop pricing while they still have numbers behind them, or close shop.
