Fixed, thanks!

When will we get symmetrical 1Gbps connections on Vumatel trenched?

Vuma won't - they don't want people setting up small datacentres in their homes on their service. I've started to see a few of these on Frogfoot selling access to Plex servers, private torrent caches (client would setup automatic torrent downloads and make the files available to people to download) and NAT virtual servers for people to use since SA ISPs usually ignore all forms of abuse (notice how MANY ISPs don't even have a public abuse contact?)

Erm.. My family is using up all the bandwidth to access my Plex server. :giggle:

If you're ever keen to host your Plex server with me, I run a few for members on this forum... just send a PM my way. It's cheaper and faster than anything you'll find elsewhere and runs via Cloudflare cache so Web Squad clients will max their lines ;)

How are you hosting these for people ? Out of a house or data centre ?

My download speeds from the Microsoft store are still terrible, when will this be rectified?
I’ve emailed Microsoft NOC about this again now. Check out peering links, and DNS and everything is alright from our end. Most Microsoft traffic coming in the way it should. Just downloads and update content. Will revert as soon as we have some more feedback here.

Testing this evening, I see that most content seems to be coming from the right place. Got a clean 1 Gbps on a Visual Studio download - @DarkSt0rm I remember you posting that these were slow, can you try again? And Downloads from the Eval Centre, though being fed by Verizon's CDN and not Microsoft's, are back to Linewire too.

I don't have a PC to test Windows store on, will ask someone to check at the office tomorrow. But overall it looks like Microsoft has done a bit of work this week.

Just so happen to have a VS update to do lol... Peaked around 33MB/s, but download finished shortly after that, so I'm guessing things are back to normal there.

Store downloads are peaking at around 400Mbit as well, but that's fine IMO. Might go faster for bigger downloads, since it did take a good 40 seconds to build to 400Mbit

Thanks for the update here. Will keep an eye on this for the next few days and make sure it stays this way.

Nvidia could be better. I'm sure I've seen 100MB/s+ (might have been in the GeForce app, and that might be using a CDN rather than the US download mirror? Not entirely sure on that...)

Yeah, still trying to figure this one out. Just tested from our end, second download speeds pick up to about 200 Mbps +. But swapping uk. in place of us. really changes things completely and downloads look a lot better. Just not sure why they're picking the furtherest CDN to feed SA from. As @waylander pointed out, changing DNS doesn't help here either.

Yup. Strange indeed...

Consider the servers where files are being downloaded from.
There are many times where the line is fine but servers are slow. IE Microsoft Xbox games server

Check this again please. Everything AWS comes to us via their own global transit via the Direct Connect in Cape Town - we're getting between 2 and 6 MB on the above download.
It's the same behavior as the Nvidia downloads. The 'first' connection is slow as all hell, the 2nd I was getting between 1 to 2MB/s, and now I'm still getting 2MB/s with periodic bursts to 4MB/s that last a second or two

It's also not just the US. I've also noticed the above when downloading from Russia as well. It's almost like downloads are being cached somewhere, but the cache doesn't have them, so it tries to download the file while sending me a really slow stream in the interim, rather than letting me download the file directly and caching it at the same time.

Edit: I think I might have 'proof' of the above. The one Russian site limits download speed if you aren't a 'donator', to around 500KB/s or something. You need a HTTP-Auth to get full speeds. I attempted to download a 50MB file from the site now, and it started coming down really slowly

Cancelling the download, and then downloading it again, it downloads at 4MB/s until around 10% completion, then the speed dies back down to <100KB/s. I left it for around 5 minutes (rough time estimate for the 'free speed' downloads), and the download completed at normal speeds.

The above also doesn't come through any CDN, it comes from a direct IP
