Hi, is there a problem with international speed? Evotel, North Riding, can't get past 10 megs on Speedtest for downloads, uploads seem fine. Local speed test is full speed on my 100 meg line. Tried international downloads and I'm getting like 200 kb/sec, speed test results below. I'm on a wired connection, tried hard restart of the router and nothing is downloading in the background:

Vumatel Bryanston not showing any issues - this is over WiFi. Checked it's not your PC's TCP settings? TCP Optimiser works wonders

No known issues here. Asymmetry like that usually due to LAN/TCP issues. Have you checked your LAN cable? Same results over WiFi (I know we don't usually accept Wifi settings, but would be good to know if there's a marked difference).

We can rule out my LAN cable, did a Wifi test now and it was 3 meg download speed and 75 meg upload speed. Also, on my LAN cable, local speed test is full 100 megs, so if the cable was faulty local speed would be equally affected as international. Therefore, it leaves me with the impression that there is some sort of issue with international download, below is another London speed test outcome and lower is the local speedtest:

Looks like local loop packet loss then. As I've mentioned, no issues on international from this side. We're seeing good results from Olivedale over our DFA circuit and a test Vumatel Circuit - and the Vumatel Circuit is carried by AEX too, which eliminates that. Will send you an iperf test to run. Have you tried from another PC?

I've tried from 2 different PCs in the house and from mobile devices - same issue, international download is always 1/10th of the full and upload speed. Local is fine. Please send the iperf test details and will gladly run it. Could it be an issue with AEX/Evotel?

Looks to be a last mile issue then. Not AEX because Vumatel results are fine (from our test and client above).

Thanks, sent you the iperf results back. So what do we do to get this resolved? I am now not getting more than 3 meg download speed which is unusable.....

We'll keep you updated on the ticket - I'd much prefer we keep a single thread going to make sure no correspondence is lost. We will investigate the issue further and assist in getting it resolved.

Hi, have you guys had any feedback from Evotel yet? Unfortunately my international speed is still extremely poor today, nothing has changed

Hey all!

Recent Web Squad member over here, loving the customer service and everything during my sign up, very efficient and helpful!

With reference to the above, I have had similar issues for quite a while now.
Octotel, 100/100mb - Southern Suburbs, Cape Town.

Was hoping that swapping to a different ISP would remove this problem (had a different ISP at my old location, very near by, also Octotel), but unfortunately seems to remain.

Reading all the posts and everything about Octotel on the forum, I am assuming that this in no small part is related to their last mile congestion rather than Web Squad specifically, however @websquadza - if there is anything you could do about this, I would be forever thankful.

As you can see a local test yields perfectly acceptable results:
764734

but any test to london or another international location for that matter, not so much:
764736

Obviously understand that 100% line speed internationally is not usually possible, but even 50% would be much more pleasing!

I fix this problem using a SDWAN solution over the last mile and it is a common problem on Octotel. [Who dishes out a /23 on DHCP unless it is token-ring???] Its a solution for business and no consumer wants it because the minimum charge is R500 a month.
But there is a potential use of OpenWRT 19.07 that might fix it. I just not someone to volunteer to test it as I don't have one available for testing.
