Quick question, should I change my MTU back to 1500 now that we established it wasn't an MTU issue? Or should I leave it at 1440?
 
@websquadza just realised I didnt have the clamp path mtu mangle rule enabled for ipv6

Seriously, this happens more then I am willing to accept, what is the reason for the recent (few weeks/months) of unstable connectivity? @websquadza
 
General performance and gaming since the maintenance has been good, though my download speeds aren't quite reaching the levels prior, and I've found twitch to be a little inconsistent at streaming at Source quality - though that could just be twitch.

Our one upstream had a small blip on Saturday. Traffic dropped while it was re-routed. We've had a chat to them about general issues over the past two weeks and we've been assured the majority of the issues were linked to the WACS issue. They have also set up a testbed to try and replicate why routing changes on their end cause the above issues, on occasion.

In the same breath, we've been bringing up a new transit provider and route leaks due to upstream peering relationships have been a bit of a headache. Our only real window to make changes on what we advertise and to whom is in the early am - our engineers have been up working tirelessly in this regard, otherwise these leaks land up dropping traffic and creating issues. However, we then don't get an instant and clear picture of what is happening and the delayed feedback loop is often when our clients are testing services the following evening. We then take what we learn, make a tweak here and there and need to wait until the am to make changes again.

As always, we're committed to ensuring the best experience for our clients. To that end, we've decided to bring up a 3rd transit provider for JHB - the order's been placed and we're expecting that live around mid October (their timelines, not ours).

Thanks for the feedback. Will investigate the latter two and see what can be done to improve matters.
 
@websquadza getting a metric ton of PL on the usual Octotel first hop, for what it's worth. Sure it'll go away in a bit and they'll deny it ever happened:

Yup, Jukskei park is in the middle of that Vumatel fix and, to make things worse, I'm not sure if you're affected by those Joburg water "upgrades" [massacre] in the area, but just seems like bad news. Vumatel's splicing crews are generally quite fast. Keep us updated on your ticket so we can escalate if they get something wrong on those repairs

Seeing elsewhere on this forum that you're not an isolated case in Rondebosch - as always, everything is "fine". Will apply more pressure from our end. What's ironic is that Rondebosch is basically their own dark backhaul to Teraco, down the road - it should, in theory, be the least issue prone.

Let's hope the "no problems" they have are resolved with this apparently unnecessary hardware maintenance. Also a wonder why we have incident management and maintenance mailboxes and don't receive these irrelevant notices.
