Vumatel down in Plumstead Cape Town, seems to go off when there is loadshedding and back on just after loadshedding.

We're noticing various Vuma (and other FNO) suburbs struggling with load shedding. These issues are usually quickly resolved with the majority of POPs only struggling for a few days at most. Usually down to damaged batteries or generator issues. But we understand the inconvenience it causes. Please submit a ticket if it's continuous so we can push back for you.

I am tired of hearing Vumatel is closing the tickets, I pay you! You guys should be managing this vendor!

Our team has been on this; unfortunately non-common issues take a fair amount of back and forth. That said, this afternoon's updates are focussing on the light levels as well as possible OLT port congestion. Thanks for your patience here. Will make sure your ticket is updated.

This is generally Google CDN related. Testing this side, I see more popular videos are loading instantly (likely cached on Google locally or in our Google cache (which is basically a Google owned server in our rack and connected to our core)) and small delays on newer content (content that needs to backfill into either cache).

I think we're realistically looking at Google only resolving these issues once Equiano is actually live. While equiano has landed landed to a lot of hype and fanfare, my understanding is that it's not in production yet (though I stand to be corrected). There's also meant to be a second SA Google pop going live, which will alleviate their load on JB1, which currently serves the entire Southern African Market.

yeah. Youtube and Google products generally are slow

Hi, was checking to see if anyone else has this issue. I dont agree that it is google CDN related. I connected my apple tv to my phone hotspot using Vodacom and it is pretty much instant and no issues at all.

On my websquad fibre, in the youtube app on my applt tv, it can take upward of 30 deconds to load my subcription page, or move between network menu options like history/ home etc....

So if it works fine on Vodacom 4G, then how can it be a google cdn issue?

Quite useful in fact, thank you - this shows that MTN (and likely Vodacom) are using PNI (private hard wired links to Google). We (and most ISPs) peer with Google over NAP and JINX's fabrics (hop 6).. Generally, we're noticing cached content load almost instantly, and uncached content (or anything that relies on Google peering traffic) taking a little longer.

@darrencon you're on a GPON link if I remember, If you don't have IPv6 enabled on your router, please do try enable it (PM me if you need assistance). Let me know if you notice any difference? (v6 traffic is currently being served via our JINX peering for A/B testing). @ijacobs3 I can assist on trenched but you need a router that supports 6in4 tunnelling (eg. Mikrotik or Ubiquity)

We believe the above might point to a possible issue on the Google's peering side. PNIs get around routing and peering capacity constraints by routing traffic over dedicated interfaces. Google, Netflix, Facebook, Microsoft (and 450+ other networks) peer at NAP. This issue is not generalised to other peers, rather specific to Google, so this points to something more specific, and something we've seen a few times in the past year.

That said, we are reaching out to Google NOC for some feedback, looking at performance differences between NAP and JINX and will investigate this further.

I haven't tried a SIT tunnel on this yet but I believe it's the same as the Unifi gateways. Please can you drop us a ticket requesting a 6in4 tunnel, so we can configure this and send you configuration instructions?
 
Morning! Vumatel are experiencing a JHB wide outage on GPON services. They have issued a NWI and are investigating.
