Yes, it's been logged. Vuma's status board is a Christmas tree today. Seems a little more widespread, out in Malanshof for us at our office too, we are on alternate links presently.I am still down a few hours later, logged a ticket 2 hours ago, have you guys escalated to Vuma?
Have heard some rumours that the outage is related to damaged fibre as a result from copper cable theft.
@websquadza any other info you may have?
Sadly no specifics shared with us, portal just says DFA is on it. But looks like it could be vandalism; given the amount of areas affected. Our area whatsapp group has had multiple different ISP's confirm it's a cable break. Apparently the main cable connecting parts of the West Rand has been vandalized.
According to the ISP's the teams are onsite splicing but it's gonna take a few hours, probably only being restored tonight.
At this point, who knows. Vumatel is aware.
Lovely.....Update I got:
Cables were cut by people trying to steal power cables.
1178 fibers to be spliced.
ETR was 11 hours at 9:55am today.
Do we have any updates?View attachment 1533489
Part of Vuma's Network status board at the moment
Do we have any updates?
Wilgeheuwel came back on about an hour or so agoJHB West(ish) general DFA/Vuma outage. Very little information as to any ETRs at this stage. Obviously the scope of work on damage this extensive is quite large, so no one is being timeline specific at this point. Thanks to all affected for your patience. We are following up where we can.
Some peeps in my neighbourhood came back on recently as well but unfortunately we are still down, not sure if they are prioritising certain ISP clients on restorationWilgeheuwel came back on about an hour or so ago
6x144 fibres broken- slack pulled where available (1 splice per fibre) and fibre segment replaced where damage too extensive (re-float and splice both sides) . At this point it's potluck as to which bundles are being spliced when. Trenched is a fibre strand per client (2 per home). You could be blue bundle, blue fibre (first fibre if I remember my fibres correctly) or aqua/aqua. Google fibre colour chart for an idea about what it looks like inside a fibre cable. So no, not ISP specificSome peeps in my neighbourhood came back on recently as well but unfortunately we are still down, not sure if they are prioritising certain ISP clients on restoration
Did they share any pictures or context as to the reasons for the damage.
