It simply does not compute, work, gel or whatever you want to call it.

Their site clearly states from their bandwidth priority profile that no major port shaping takes place in the Silver bracket of which this package belongs to, depending on traffic of course, but you shouldn't have any major issues otherwise they claim. Their traffic management method used to assign different traffic protocols such as Gaming, P2P or VoIP are on different priority levels and this particular connection has "High" rating assigned on its gaming profile, but I think the word you are looking for is "Appalling". So simply put, any form of on online gaming just isn't viable on their 2MB home adsl (R299) uncapped (at least).

Here is the kicker. I have two other account, one is an Axxess uncapped 2mb connection which ran out yesterday (30th) as I cancelled it in favour for the WA 2Mb (and here I thought WA will be even better), I never had any issue with the Axxess connection. From downloading to gaming it was all smooth sailing for the most part. I also have one FNB connect account as a backup just in case (I get free GBs as part of being a platinum cheque book holder so why not), and even their connection holds up during gaming sessions. So my question is why is WA so poor?

A few games taking up majority of my time:
DOTA 2 - major hitching and warping with a 200ms ping!
World of Tanks - same thing here, latency between 200-230ms which is perfectly playable but with major packet loss causing warping and rubber banding all over the place.
Diablo III - Intermittent loot lagging and small but noticeable hitching in places.
World of Warcraft - A cool green bar but with the same warping of characters and entities on screen.

As I clearly said, I didn't have any of these issues on those other two connections.

What does it come down to, probable port shaping or packet loss?

PS = This is my personal feedback I'm not affiliated with any company or group.

Morning TheRealWitblitz,

We need to get our ADSL support team to investigate your issue as I cant say what exactly is the cause here.

Can you PM me your customer code so I can escalate further.

and here I thought WA will be even better

You thought wrong, and if you were on these forums you'd see a metric ****-ton of people recommend MWEB over Web Africa

Web Africa has stated time-and-time again they're a mom & pop operation now and don't cater to gamers. They used to be awesome. But please notice that I said "used to be".

They will PM you (or you them) and nothing will come of this as the situation hasn't changed much (if any) in the last 3 years since they started their own network and "uncapped is not viable" mentality.

Used to love them. But they chose to ignore constructive feedback and ask me to rather cancel my services if I wasn't happy (this from their CEO/Company Founder FYI)

So I suggest you do the same. Take the financial hit, get an MWEB account, and never EVER worry about gaming anymore. I know I haven't (and I even gave Web Africa's unshaped capped account a shot, which yielded almost 3x the latency than their normal shaped account... yes I'm not kidding, shaped = 350ms, unshaped = 925ms!)

They also "investigated" but never got back to me and the account never performed so I cancelled and moved my hard earned cash to someone who took my business seriously.

I also experienced the same some time ago with WebAfrica. I used to play a lot of HON and during the last 2 months with WebAfrica and the rubberbanding was crazy. I was eventually informed that I have to switch to a unshaped account since Gaming is not high on the profile. Online gaming was working fine for a over a year and then all of a sudden I had to change my account to get the same service I was getting.

No thanks, switched to MWEB and no problems whatsoever.

Heh, one of the biggest game server providers requires you to buy an overly expensive account for online gaming?

I will cancel. I'm not in the mood to barter for latency for a mere R299, I'll go to MWEB as you suggested thanks. Even Youtube is hitching on this connection. Uncapped my ass.

Still no change

Just changed from Mweb to Web Africa... What a huge mistake.. This is still happening 3 years later. I've now cancelled with Web Africa and I'm gonna try out Afrihost.

And just a side note Web Africa's customer service is horrific, I had a chat with an online consultant who took so long to reply and then just left the chat before answering my questions, I'm guessing they use a 2mb line from themselves to run their chat service.

The consultant's name was Abrahams or something similar.

Hi andglad333,

Really sorry to hear about your poor experience with us. It's never good to hearing that a customer has left us especially this way.

Due to the network load and the associated increase in contacts our team were extremely busy but I can assure you that it was not done purposefully. I have asked our ADSL manager to investigate the chat logs to see what exactly happened.

With regards to the network we've made a few changes and things have improved. Please let me know if you are still having issues.
