So the last 2-3 months webafrica totally sucked on steam. Playing dota 2 was like watch a slideshow and the store inside steam was just so slow. When I dail my afrihost account the store is fine but the delay on dota 2 is bad (without the slideshow effect). I reported this to webafrica but their support team is really not that great on this issue. They keep saying the problem is in my side even if it works better on afrihost. Restarted my port multiple times... and still steam is totally sh*t when I use my webafrica account.

So now I am asking here. What can it be? My exchange? My exchange not liking Webafrica? Limelight?

I am on a WebAfrica Uncapped account in Cape Town, and my buddy plays Dota 2 next to me all the time.

His latency while playing is 170ms, if he watches someone else's game its 380ms but smooth. This is in Cape Town, where Web Africa's IPC links are.

So it sounds like, your problem may be related to backhaul from the BRAS your line is on, to Web Africa's IPC links, and this would be on Telkom's network.

At least that is all that makes sense to me.

Unless saalocin is also experiencing slow downloads and high pings all around, I sincerely doubt it's his exchange at all, especially when WA responds different to Afrihost.

I'd suggest doing a normal ping test

The slide show does sound weird though, I'd maybe just check if my CPU isn't overheating etc. If you need, ask MWEBGuy for a test account with MWEB to get a better measuring stick since Afrihost/Axxess and Web Africa constantly has problems with shaping/slowness etc.

But do a simple ping test first. One on your WA account and one on Afrihost. If these pings (local) show high ping, it's the exchange. If these are low, check international. (bbc.co.uk maybe) and lastly check your hardware too. Had a friend of mine struggle with BF3 doing that and figured out it's his CPU and not Afrihost (even though Afrihost sucked balls last night apparently)

You do realise I didn't say it was his exchange?

I agree a M-Web account may help, but the guy was trying to figure out what the problem is.

No issues with Steam and Dota2. In JHB. Pings to dota2 server 200ms which is normal.
