WebAfrica Capped ADSL

WebAfrica's billing department is atrocious.

I upgraded my line from 2mb to 4mb on 1 october 2014.There seems to be a problem with their billing system.If you sign up as a new bundled customer,then you will pay R250 on 4mb line rental.If you are an existing bundled customer then you are charged the Telkom rate of R299 and not the correct discounted amount of R250.I was informed that i would have to phone the billing department when an invoice is generated and they still managed to stuff it up.

I received the following invoice on 27october:

DSL Line 2Mbps - (2014-11-01 - 2014-11-30) R150.00........{billed for 2mb instead of 4mb,it should be R250}
Home ADSL: 40GB + 80GB - (2014-11-01 - 2014-11-30) R149.00....{correct}
Download Plus: None
DSL Line 2Mbps => DSL Line 4Mbps - (Upgrade/Downgrade: 2014-11-01 - 2014-11-30)
Billing Cycle: Monthly R149.00.......{this pro rata amount should be R100 not R149,There is a R100 difference between 2mb&4mb on bundled lines}

Sub Total: R392.98
14.00% VAT: R55.02
Credit: R0.00
Total: R448.00

I want to be billed the correct amount and not worry about them stuffing up the debit order amount in the future.

isn't this a simple matter of phoning billing as you have indicated

R150+R149 = R299 which you ask them to change to R250? am i missing something here?

as someone alluded to, a 5+10 probably is a 6 or 7 anytime

what people have been saying is that a 100GB anytime unshaped package will not be costed the same as say a 50GB+100GB.

and i suppose what you are saying is that wa (or any other isp) should have a 100GB product. its pricepoint should make you decide which model you prefer.

This is called flexibility where the client can choose how much they slide the tab, but the price also increased. This model sounds like AH, but without the after hours data. WA should maybe limit the anytime data to 100GB as this is the sweet spot for most gamers, streamers like myself. Depending on how quickly you use your data and the network strain your speeds will be halved(still decent speeds) depending on those 2 factors.

It will be no use for WA to just open the flood gates and then everyone suffers. *cough* Vox and Afrihost :whistle:

I have already phoned them.I wanted to make their billing issues known,so they get their sh#%t together.They submit debit orders by the 20th so it is in a pending stage.If there is a billing issue all they do is add a credit to your account for the following month.Why should a company have carte blanche over debit orders?Is it too difficult to implement a change on your billing system that charges the WebAfrica line rental and not Telkoms price?

Hi Astroboi89,

Please PM me your account details so I can get our team to assist and correct the amounts.

Having had issues a few times in the past, not too sure when this will come right

What I have learnt works is to phone in and ask to speak to one of the senior members in the billing department and this then seems to help to get the problem sorted out.

Maybe also now that the rep is involved, things will be sorted sooner rather than later

I streamed Liverpool v Newcastle earlier. Worked flawlessly, not a single buffer and picture quality was amazing.

Which package to take?

I’m moving from AH, where I have a 50 + 50GB, and a 10Mbps ADSL link. My cancellation takes effect at the end of this month. I’ll be applying later this month with WA. In the meantime, I have identified the 60 + 120GB with a 10Mbps line option from WA. The Home Capped option is R599 and the Business Capped option is R689. I’m not too fussed on the price difference.

My needs are for the family to browse the web / stream you tube / download series, etc. The AH account worked well – other than the recent outages.

Any advice on my options would be great – would the business service provide better performance / consistency?

For your usage home should be fine. Get the 90+180 :)

I also move this month from AH to WA. I had the same package as you. Home capped is fine, the cap size is is dependent on your needs. You can get a historically usage report from the AH Clientzone and see how much you used every month.

I have the home capped and similar usage to you - start with the home capped; save the difference. If you aren't happy, then upgrade. I am quite happy with home account 99% of the time :)

Very unhappy here. Just moved from a 4Mb business uncapped Afrihost connection to a web africa 120+240 capped account with a 40Mb VDSL line. I can say I am not at all happy right now with download speeds. Speedtest.net scores are awesome, usually full line speed around 37 Mb/s and I can stream HD video very quickly. But for downloading, I can almost never get above 11Mega bit's per second and I signed up on the weekend, I am scared to see what week days look like. Torrents are worthless. I left a very well seeded torrent to go through the night and it downloaded less than a gig through the middle of the night, it was flying when I moved to my afrihost free 1gb capped account. With Steam I download a game using web africa's steam servers, it rarely goes above 20Megabits and usually hovers around 10Mb.

Using newsgroups, if I use an international server like ususenet or astraweb or newsgroup direct I am maxing out around 150KB/s when I use the local web africa servers it jump us to 11Mb/s, still only 1/4 of my line speed for local web africa servers. But 1/40th of my line speed for downloading from international news servers on a sunday morning.

I also tried using a VPN, and it would max out at 140KB/s.

It seems these capped accounts are only for browsing and streaming and very heavily shaped when it comes to any kinds of downloads. I was under the impression that by going to a capped account I would have a lot of flexibility. My afrihost business uncapped almost never shaped me no matter what I did. I am probably just going to go back the 4Mb uncapped as I like to be able to use my line the way I see fit. I wrongly assumed that was the purpose of a capped account.

I tried signing up for an account, but I keep getting some useless fraud check warning, tried phoning, but it seems no one works there on weekends? Who can recommend another ISP please, I need this up on Monday for my business?
