WebAfrica Capped ADSL

Line syncs but no connection here on my capped account. Is WA having problems or should I contact Telkom?

Made the switch to Netflix last week and so far its been impeccable. Quality is excellent (very close to HD) and I don't think I saw a single stutter.

I could see a slight drop in quality yesterday when running 2 Netflix streams while syncing 10+ GB Dropbox account but it was still way superior to DSTV "SD".

And this is all on a 4Mb line. Looking forward to 20Mb.

Only problem is 60Gb daytime is no longer going to be enough ... :p

No issues at the time of your guys posts. Are you still having issues?
 
How are the Web Africa normal home capped accounts for NNTP downloads. I do most of my downloads during the 12-6 period so just want to check if the account will still be unshaped then. I can handle shaping NNTP etc during the day.

Also what about origin/steam downloads?

On the whole should be a hassle free experience. I do the vast majority of my DL's in this time and have had some slower performance at the start of my DL but an hour or two in DL, all running full steam and I always finish before 06:00, so it really does not cause me to loose any sleep :)

The accounts work full speed from midnight.
 
Is there a network issue since last night?

My business capped was flying over the weekend, full 2MB/sec and fantastic streaming.

I left some large downloads to start at midnight, and returned this morning to find they hadn't finished yet, and most had come down at 700k/sec - 1MB/sec only. Currently (6:40am) still downloading at only 700k/sec.
 
Ignore my last post - it appears my news provider is flaky - WA is still solid with a different one.

Why not use the WA/IS news server? It works perfectly for me and anything over 200 odd days old, then I switch to Astraweb

I'll admit the last time I tried the WA server was a while ago, but I was only getting 300-400k/sec, and call me paranoid, but I didn't like the fact it didn't support SSL. Is that still the case, and does it only allow 4 connections?

My settings (to the WA/IS news servers) are 14 connections / 110 days retention / no SSL. Please don't ask for details as the settings are pretty old and probably should be revised :)

After midnight I download at 1MB/sec on a 10Mb line. Account is home capped.

Cool, so clearly it's come some way since I last used it - thanks for the info, will give it a try.

Not sure re SSL but I have a 10 meg line and generally get full speeds so am very happy with it.

IS is 200 days retention AFAIK.

NNTP runs at close to line speed as possible between 00h00-06h00 so you will have no problems there. Shaping of NNTP happens during business hours (07h00-17h00 weekdays). We have a free account for customers to test at link here (just move slider to the 2gb account)

I assume streaming will be fine any time of the day?

What about online gaming and then steam/origin downloads etc?

Streaming will run fine during the day. As for Steam and Origin downloads it should perform as well but depending on network load it can be shaped.

I get some of my GoG downloads as torrents. Are torrent protocols also unshaped during the 12-6AM period? What happens for HTTP downloads during the day?
