WebAfrica Capped ADSL

10 meg line; capped account.

Trying to DL from news server and getting 5% to 7% of line speed. This is after hours!!

What is the point of capped accounts if you can't use them properly? I seldom do any news server DL during the day, but on the odd occasion I do, I really would like to be able to get decent performance, and don't think this is too much to ask

Same issue here, I'm considering it to move to another ISP. I choose quality over quantity.

Hmm, I'm not noticing the dramatic slow-down anybody else here is talking about just recently. This is a speed-test I've just run now at 19:48, during the heart of peak-time (when the Telkom LTE speeds are crawling at 2Mbps):

A test I ran later a bit earlier showed the connection doing the standard 8.7 Mbps download, so no real complaints with that. Also getting 200GB of peak data and 2TB of evening data is pretty awesome by any measure (on the current double-data promotion).

Maybe the guys experiencing slow speeds are being affected by something else (e.g. hitting into some AUP limit)?

Still 1TB from 0:00-6:00. Not that it matters.

Aah yes indeed, my bad ... I guess WebAfrica decided not to double THAT data too, or else the internet might die. Honestly I've never even gotten close to scratching 1TB, so it's all a moot point like you say.

As I said, I hardly ever do any DL's from news servers during the day, so really do not think this is the case. Besides this is a capped account, not uncapped so not too sure what part AUP's would play.

It is seldom that everyone is effected - there have been times when others have had issues, and I have not, but I know that this is my good luck when I am still OK

I find that it is frequently IS's news servers: downloads from overseas news servers fly whereas local crawls.

Agree.

I use both the IS server and a paid international server and generally that gives me full speed (unless WA slows things down)

Morning Guys,

I would like to take a look into the speed issues some of you guys are experiencing. Can you PM me your account details and I will get our team to assist.

I think the usage tracker issue is resolved.

Could others check?

It only took 16 days to fix. Go team WA!

Mine is but the usage seems too high. Just the sheer number of hours I'd have to have dedicated to downloading per day to see these numbers :wtf:

Not sure I can trust my math at this hour on a few hours sleep but for example to have reached my Free Download Plus total on a 4mb line I would have had to have to used up every available hour which I'm certain I have not done.

Yep seems to be fine on my side.

Not only did it take them 16 days to fix but not once did they as a company communicate with customers about it - shows a total lack of customer service.

My anytime is probably a bit high, but seeing we have the extra this month, it shouldn't be a problem

I do feel - in principle - that WA should do something to compensate as we pay for something but do not get all that we paid for; they would never give customers any latitude if we mess up with payments etc. Anyway I know this is wishful thinking

My anytime is also a bit high on certain days, but hey? Who cares, I wont finish it anyway due to shaping at evening.
Ps: Still waiting for my reply WA.

+5

My usage has been revised down. I've been informed they're still sorting out the issues

Oh interesting. Mine hasn't changed but let's see what happens in the next few days.

Good to see WA doing the right thing

On a negative note - I am not even getting 30% line speed on my news server DL, so guess even if I wanted to use the extra double cap it would be impossible.

This is Sunday night and getting such poor speeds. WA sure does throttle, shape, prioritize or whatever they want to call it
