Webafrica VDSL priority profile

I'll try Afrihost and I will report on performance. @Chevron, which ISP do you use?

Unless you're in Durban, I don't think AH will show a fair reflection as they have capacity problems now. I hear Axxess (even tho they also MTN) are managing their network better so try them aswell.

Another ISP with a free gig account (also IS, so might not be a good idea if IS (WA) are having issues) is Gridhost.

You can also try Vox's free gig4gig account.

Haven't tried Afrihost. The speed I was getting before was reasonable. It is reasonable now every once in while as well. The thing is when I pay over R 1.000 for 20Mb VDSL + 90GB per month data I expect to have excellent speed all the time. That is what WA promises, but does not deliver.

Just did another speed test:

Last Result:
Download Speed: 7808 kbps (976 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1638 kbps (204.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 210 ms
Mon 27 Oct 2014 17:20:12 SAST

It's much better, but it's still not great. A 210ms latency is just not responsive and an effective 1 MBs on a 20 Mbs is also not enough.
Where in the country are you? Latency of 210ms is close to the average best you will get in SA to servers hosted in London. Again the best depends on where in SA you are.

Cape Town usually get from 170-190ms to London.
JHB usually get 200-220ms to London.
Durban I am not 100% sure but it closer to what JHB gets.

If you got 210ms to a South African speedtest server your complaint on latency would be justified.

That said, the speeds erm is a still definitely way way way too low. Thus somewhere there is a speed problem, and that definitely can be looked at. Can you also do speedtests to the JHB and CTN MyBroadband speedtest servers and paste them here? (trying to figure out if your speed problem is local or international)

Not consistently, also sometimes in evenings. But indeed more during the day.
Do me one last favor please, if you don't mind.

Do both local (JHB) and international (London or so) speedtests at the same time, during the day, eg. at 10am, 12, 2pm and 3pm and again later eg. 5pm and 6pm.

Your good speedtest was after hours and local, your bad speedtests were all international and during the day, so difficult to say whether its only international or only during the day. Having the above combinations should help pin point the problem easier.
