WeChat. What's the verdict?

Whatsapp require a sim card cell number - does not work with WiFi only devices
Although I have seen hacks that port a cellphone installation of Whatsapp to a WiFi tablet
To much hassle in my opinion
Oddly enough I used a simcard I have in a dongle to go through the WeChat verification process for the wifi only Nexus7 so why
whatcrap can't offer the same thing is beyond me.

Whether or not I'll stick with WeChat when BBM arrives on the scene is currently unknown but for now…

Well, it has been years after this subject created. WeChat really has problems now. I can't login to my account for days.

Also have a problem after loading wechat to communicate with my daughter, i now have been blocked and you have to jump thriu hoops to try get access again. Not user friendly at all and the support is useless.

Support is really desperate. It has been days but no response at all.

My son was asked to set up an account with Wechat by his Chinese tutoring company, but he hasn't been able to get registered - apparently he needs to get an existing Wechat user to authenticate him.

I tried registering myself to see if I could help and I was astonished at the BS they throw in your way. It actually gave me a message to "acknowledge that I has violated" their Terms of Service (by registering?) and ask for assistance. WTF!

Anyone else have experience with this and how did you resolve it? Personally I'd tell them to get ****, but my son needs this quite urgently.

It wouldn't have helped even if you did manage to set up an account. Only accounts older than 6 months can verify new accounts. I've just jumped through the hoops of getting my WeChat pay working for a trip to China.

Thanks. So how did you manage that? WeChat Support, or find another user?

The travel agent I used managed to verify my account for me. She tried to get her Chinese contact to do it, but apparently, you must be in the same country.

I guess I'll try find a willing helper here on the forum to do that for us. He's trying to finalize his online tutoring job, but this requirement has thrown a spanner in the works and he needs to solve it quick.

Tried to reactivate my account last night but it also now needs this verification too, so sorry can’t help.
