Weight Loss Thread 2014

I am in the camp that long term carbohydrate restriction is damaging. Bulletproof exec talks a lot about how when he ate only one serving of veg for a couple months he ended up with a bunch of new food sensitives, presumably due to destroying his gut lining due to insufficient mucous production. The ravenous appetite may be your body crying out for carbs. If I were you I would introduce a carb re-feed every 7 to 10 days and see what happens.

I have in the last month binged on puddings and carbs on the weekends. And it hasn't slowed down my weight loss. But what it has done is reintroduced cravings for especially sweets. Before, when I was really strict, I had no cravings at all.

Interesting... maybe you would do best to stay away from sweets then and binge on sweet potatoes ;) I've had no trouble with sweet cravings at all after my binges, but then I would eat 2 to 3 packets of them, and would not want to see them again the next day! I note you said weekend - I would never deviate and binge on carbs for two days in a row - absolute no!

Eggs in the morning, and generally stir fry and some protein for dinner, with lots of olive oil.

I'm just ravenous all the time though, no matter how much I eat.

Drink quite a lot of tea and coffee.

I'm aware of the heresy I'm about to suggest but have you counted calories in and calculated rough daily caloric requirements? What you're describing sounds way low...

Where's the lunch at?

I found that oils and other fatty substitutes like coconut oil werent enough to stop me being hungry during the day.
I had to make sure I had a huge amount of fat in my meals to not feel hungry.

Have a look at the nutritional info for this product:

http://www.woolworths.co.za/store/f...uct-details-index.jsp?productId=6009101477999

If you subtract the fibre from the carb content you end up with a negative net carb count, which is incorrect

I see your point there, but if you look at this

http://www.woolworths.co.za/store/fragments/product-details/product-details-index.jsp?productId=6009178949962

there is no way that almonds are 33.4grams of carbs per 100g

I dont think woolworths know what the **** they are doing... even their labels are different to the website.

Edit: That coconut product is pure coconut? that nutritional label looks like garbage... maybe that is the problem? I see coconut as 33.5 fat, 3.3 protein, 15.2 carb, and 9 fiber per 100g

Most expensive almonds ever....that is what I paid for 1kg at SPAR?

Yeah I'm not sure if that label is accurate, but I've seen a few labels where the dietary fibre exceeds the carb content,

"glycaemic carbohydrate" means the sum of all glycaemic carbohydrates that are carbohydrates,
which are available for metabolism

I've noticed some of the woolworth's products say glycemic carbs, and others don't. I've emailed them before about rubbish information, and they say they will get back to me, and then dont.... I really don't think they know or care what they are doing

Could kick myself for picking up so much weight after December but its going away again slowly but surely :) Better keep it off this time... About 5kg more to go and I think I should be fine.

to all who posted in my "going to gym" thread, thanks for all the tips and info.

i'd like to report that I did my first session today, and that I am feeling quite motivated. It was good to be back, and I really get on well with the PT. He's a good oke, and rates are really reasonable.

Because we are focusing on arms, chest and core for the next couple of months he said it would be wise to cut down on the carbs and pick up on the protein. He said that I should pick up a protein shake (whey). I spoke to some colleagues at the office and this came highly recommended
