My new keto-friendly midnight snack
Lettuce, tomato, jalapeno, cheese, sour cream, salt. Delicious...
I'm back on track again. A couple of bad weekends really put a spanner in the works...
Does anyone else going ketogenic notice that their hair grows faster? When I'm eating properly I need to cut it every two weeks as opposed to every month when I'm off the wagon?

Or something.. My shoulders look a bit more boney...![]()
That's your body cannibalizing your muscles. That's what happens when your carbs are high... your body can't burn fat, so it turns your muscles into sugar.
Bull, what are you smoking this morning mister, find any support that says high carbs cause your body to eat muscle

A calorie restricted low fat diet will cause more muscle deterioration than a low carb diet. If your insulin levels are high all the time your body cannot burn fat, and if you do not have the metabolic machinery in place to burn fat, then there's only one thing left - your muscles and internal organs.

Not strictly true. If your insulin is high that's because you've got lots of glucose in your system, so no need to cannibalise your muscles.
Where you'll have a problem is with insufficient protein intake, in which case your body WILL cannibalise some muscle to repair others.

Yes I know not strictly true, but I was making the point that if you are eating carbs all the time you will not have the metabolic machinery in place to burn fat, and this is what makes muscle loss worse on a high carb diet. Many overweight people are insulin resistant which in itself accelerates muscle loss, and the entire thing just becomes a spiral downhill. You cannot burn fat efficiently until your fat burning machinery is in good working order. Once you have that in place, you can start playing games with your hormones to your advantage, and this includes periods of high carbs. (I said that to annoy you![]()
I am insulin resistant, I used to eat high carb low fat to try lose weight, I never had an issue with muscle mass loss. My lean mass is 73kg (1.76m) ...
And yeah, you can't burn fat properly until you drop the carbs, I agree 100%.
Carbs has NOTHING to do with muscle loss, you're just using it as a scare tactic to get people onto low carb
Low protein/starvation = heavy muscle loss.
