Western Cape speed camera system update

“Where we have implemented the system, we have seen not only the number of speed offences decrease, but also the number of incidents and also deaths,” said Siphesihle Dube from the Western Cape Ministry of Transport and Public Works.

Good job! :)

Anyone here actually been caught on these avg speed cameras?

I'm all for these systems if you ask me...

It, to a degree, lessens the profit motive in terms of having a single trap in a place where the speed changes suddenly or is out of step with the size of the road.

Got caught on N2 outbound a few weeks ago, was doing 90 - its an 80 zone. Needless to say that I haven't sped since

I'm wondering the same thing. I don't know a single person who's ever received a fine from one of these average speed camera systems. I wonder if they're even switched on.

I got 2 fines for speeding in Nelson Mandela a couple of weeks ago .
They are switched on

I once had these two knobs pass me on the N3 without any plates on their car. A couple of kilometres down the road they'd stopped under a bridge and were busy putting the plates back on after realising there's cops somewhere down the highway. If the N3 enforced just that it'd have a huge impact on speeding down that road, that and trucks.

They should use this in on the eToll highway and rather use officers to clamp down on people abusing other laws in the morning especially a few major intersection. Speed enforcement is a waste of officer hours

For those who sit watching the speed limit, my TomTom knows where they speed cameras start and it measures your average speed and lets you know when you're over the average. More relaxing driving that way and not having to worry if you went over the limit.

Wait did they say the road between Beaufort West to Three Sisters is dangerous. Its the most boring road in the country, ok second most as the most boring is the road between Upington and Calvinia.

Many people are confusing Audio Tactile Pedestrian Detectors for ASOD cameras.

I googled "Audio Tactile Pedestrian Detectors" and it said they're some device for those push-button crossing things at robots, nothing you could confuse with a video gantry over freeways?
