Western Cape speed camera system update

My personal favourite was a guy in a Golf GTI who slowed down for the first camera, then drove like a maniac through the average speed zone and then I saw his brake lights coming on in the distance just before the second camera. Seems someone failed maths at school...

You obviously kept up with him though ?

And still 3 out of every 4 cars slows to a crawl as they pass the camera thinking that it is the traditional fixed type that flashes and then speeds back up again after passing it.
If they really wanted these systems to work better they would put a whole lot more effort into educating the motoring public as to how they work.

Usually, shortly before approaching the first camera, there will be clear signage indicating that an average speed enforcement section is about to start. That is, in my opinion, good enough effort: if people are still stupid enough to not realise what that wording means, they should get off the fscking road and go back to flipping burgers at McDonalds.

Yes that's right but I still think a lot of people actually don't know what "average speed enforcement" means.

Yes sure but surely the whole purpose of the exercise is to get motorists to stick to the speed limit over an extended distance.

How else do you do it except by a sign that says "Average speed enforcement"... the sign is massively self explanatory if you ask me.

Hell in KZN, there was a massive marketing drive when they implemented it on the N3.. Anyone who doesn't know what it means is just retarded and doesn't follow the rules anyway.

While they're busy with this BS we have people who can't drive for ****, doesn't know the rules of the road, drives 90 in the fast lane, and my all time favorite driving with no brake lights. Fix your K53 *** first and actually enforce the law before coming up with crap like this!

Those people, along with those who think it's their right to permanently drive 20-40 km/h over the speed limit deserve to have their cars taken away.

Personally I prefer these to the standard 120zone with no avg speed enforcement. Especially on longer, flatter routes.

Anyone here actually been caught on these avg speed cameras?

I was rushing to the airport whilst in CT last year and clocked up a very expensive fine in the 80km area around Pinelands, without realising it. The system definitely works!

That part of the N2 is not covered by the average speed cameras. The coverage area starts/ends at the pedestrian bridge at UCT, the Main Road bridge over the N2, and the pedestrian bridge over Eastern Boulevard. The N2 past Pinelands isn't covered.
