Well, if you read the thread, he loved the Volvo ... you'll also see the difference was fairly close, and in fact my last trade in got me more than a B Class Mercedes

Which Volvo did you own that draws you to that conclusion?
And what resale did you get on the model you chose?
Or at the very least, you test drove?

Anyway - down to the person. A GTI for me would be settling and I couldn't pay R6,000pm on something that I know I've settled. Then the only thing that keeps me going is the thought of how I score another R30,000 another car at the end of the day

Not quite what I call a win for me

To all but the die hard fans, but car looked better and caused more a buzz on the roads

Far more features ... better build quality ... better ride ... quicker ... better value (full maintenance plan etc) - and at the end of the day, I far more enjoyed owning that, than having R30,000 at the end of the period

The other upside is in a car like that you will hardly ever see yourself coming the other way. They are rare and unique without compromise. If you are that concerned about the tiny difference when it comes to trading in just put the money you save on insurance each month into a saving scheme. You'll probably end up saving more that way.

On the money side, remember I don't pay services or anything really. Think you'll still need to pay something on the VW during its life?

Anyway - not a comparison between Volvo and VW as that was may an example. But for me personally, resale is not the first thing I'll look at and new off a sale, regardless of car brand.

The buzz was in your head methinks. That volvo looks as conservative/bland as can be. 99% won't register that it's there.
Regardless if you buy a car to be noticed, that's a sad state to be in.

Anyway Brenden, perhaps you're out of your depth being in the motoring section. The point was as I mentioned above ie not brand vs brand. In the real world people evaluate different criteria when buying a car and looks do usually contribute

This isn't a niche opinion. That is a very conservative design, which was a trademark of Volvo's design language. Switch off the blinkers and look at it again.

Cool that you liked that car, but you are deluded if you think it stood out.

If you buy anything to try and stand out it's a pretty damning reflection of your character. You stand out with your actions and character. To define yourself with things you buy is a toxic path to follow.

So you think motoring is about showing off and being noticed? Well spank me with a wet fish, I thought motoring was a method of transport.
 
When you guy a car, you weigh up everything and looks, to most people, do count.

In the real world people look at the price, reliability, aesthetics/looks/ economy ... they mash them altogether and they decide. Perhaps you're 1 in a million that doesn't care, doesn't wash their car, doesn't care about scrapes or bumps but the majority, do.

If motoring is a method of transport to you, maybe refrain from some comments because they really do show how clueless you are. On the positive, now that I understand that you're not actually a motoring enthusiast, I'll know not to take you seriously

There's a rift between buying a car because you think it looks cool, which is totally cool BTW. And buying a car because you think other people will notice it/you. I.E creating a buzz on the road -__-

Don't need a PHD in Psych to tell you the latter is not a healthy thing to do.
