I still maintain the current Mazda 3 range models just look & feel more "sporty" than its closest rivals.

My main gripe & others here is that most of the range has that N/A 1.6 77kw motor that hails from the days of Noah....

Both Mercedes and BMW have cars that are more desirable than VAGs, and they last longer while looking better and ageing more gracefully. Toyota makes cars that are much more reliable in the long run. Hyundai offers better warranty and value for money. Those are but a few of many options out there, if you dare to think outside the box that is.

Is the new version of Mazda 3 due this year, or next year?
 
The current version from 2014 side. Any planned f/lift will be minor.

SA markets have the pap 1.6. Overseas there is much better SkyActive unit.

Yeah. I spent so much time watching reviews on youtube, then when I got to test drive it I was wondering why stuff like the day time driving lights are missing.

Can someone explain to me why there are differences in features for different markets? For example the Mazda 2 in Europe comes with cruise control, but in S.A. its not even an optional extra.
 
Yeah I can't understand the lack of LED DRL's on the Mazda 3 same like the Mazda 2 locally.

Wrt spec I guess it could be various factors as play such as factories the cars are sourced from; if more than 1 factory. As well as Mazda SA would spec local cars from HQ for certain reasons...maybe market research; maybe trying to fleece the customer...lol

Lol seriously let him lie to himself or con himself it's his right to do so,everybody that knows anything about cars knows that VW's/Audi's are amongst the best cars on the road regardless of what he claims while driving a boring old OPEL.

If he thinks them drab OPEL's are the best thing since sliced bread then good for him.;)

That's a FALSE presumption,I'm in the highlighted BMW group but my statement still holds true for me and it will hold true for most buyers of the other groups also,notice I didn't say "the best" I said "amongst the best".

Your attitude towards VAG products on the other hand makes no sense,like it's personal vendetta for you lol.Guy with a VW bully you at school?:D

People do it all the time. Even in this thread, the Volvo is being overlooked because of resale.

Edit: After reading the rest of the thread, I'm inclined to agree with you. I chose my Volvos knowing I'd lose a fair amount at the end, but at least I really enjoyed that time. I'd hate to buy something purely on the resale and 'settle' for something I'm not super happy with

And in the end, the difference wasn't as huge as I was told. My last C30 gave me more on trade than my stepbrothers Merc

I guess it's their loss. Volvo makes excellent cars, as does Alfa-Romeo, Subaru, Jaguar and so many other overlooked brands. This is why I strongly advocate against the resale value myth because if you keep a car for a reasonable amount it really does not matter. Sometime driving pleasure alone can offset even the most severe decreases in value.

Many people get caught in the craze of "upgrading". You are not so much upgrading as you are bankrolling a specific brand of cars. This is why residuals were invented in the first place.

How about an electric car, Nissan Leaf, BMW a little too expensive for now, no servicing, no petrol, just charge and go. Would be an ideal commute to work and back.
Something to consider.

If I was working for the CSIR, then yes.
Does the South African government even give tax breaks for cars the produce less pollution at all like I always hear about in European car reviews?

Your post makes it seem like people that take into consideration trade in are buying crap cars, I would pick the golf 7 GTI ahead of the Volvo, and at the end of that still get a better return when selling it.

Volvo for life!!!at least if you buy one that is.

If he really wants a Volvo he must get a used one,at least the fool that bought a Volvo new is the one that takes the hard knock.
