What do FNB and Microsoft have in common?

All you have to do is go look at the javascript, you then then see the site was developed by a bunch of amateurs.

So Microsoft gets picked on for its copy dialog, Mac gets picked on for being hipster, and (desktop) Linux gets picked on for being un-userfriendly.

Whether deserved or undeserved, these stereotypes are exploited daily for a few cheap geek laughs.

That is what your comment is about, no?

Jan - why would you assume he's poking fun at it or that it was intended to be comedic at all? I think you're giving him way too much credit.

While I take your point, the intent (whether light-hearted or "serious" grievance) is irrelevant, I'd argue.

What the video has achieved is the ability for me to stand around a braai next weekend and go: "The Post Office's delivery estimates are about as accurate as the loading bar on FNB's site."

No-one will catch the joke to begin with, but with the help of geeks all around South Africa I'm sure we can make this a thing :D

That said, his tone and subsequent comments suggests he wasn't trying to be serious. "I pop a few Valium" to deal with the FNB site's UX? Clearly hyperbole for comedic effect.
 
Jan - have a look at his recent comments on the video:

It's 2014, design and usability matter. I think FNB try harder than other banks, but trying doesn't count. They've got it badly wrong here, and they really should fix it.

Implicit contract of a progress bar: I am measuring something. When I tick up, something real has happened.
Implicit contract of a waiting indicator (e.g. spinning wheel): time is passing, I am still busy with your request.
They shouldn't have used either, but a waiting indicator would have been less of a crime

Fair enough. Trolling? Regardless, as I said, I would argue his intent isn't as important as the outcome.

Incidentally, the paragraph you quoted remains accurate even if we disagree on the issue of intent. "Poking fun" can be done light-heartedly or maliciously (to laugh with, or laugh at someone, I guess?).
