What is the best anti-virus program?

There is no way that I am going to pay these anti-virus crooks if I can get MSE for free, it works, it never ever bothers you about anything and just does it's job.
 
I'm on ESET Smart Security. I think its been about 3-4 years now, have had issues with it so its not perfect, but if you are extra cautious and have the firewall set to manual interaction, you should do just fine. Then for corporate AV's/Internet Security I sell Sophos, which is on my work machines too, works like a super charm, that I haven't had probs in 2 years. Again i'm an extra cautious person now so no funny business on those work machines.

For PC/laptop protection, MSE > all the rest. But yes, ESET is good as well but a bit heavy on resources. MSE is so light on juice and works bloody well. I occasionally run MalwareBytes AntiMalware as well just to be safe.

2 - 3 MB of RAM is what mine runs at.

I see that the lawsuit referes to their Registry Mechanic software, not their actual antivirus products. Having said that, there is speculation on various forums that they have a high false positive rate and they wanted to avoid this being highlited in independant testing.

It is a pity that they will stoop to scare tactics to sell their products. I believe they have solid corporate products with good management tools, this though shows a lack of principles.
 
I run a small Internet cafe and we run a mixture of medicines. We run Security essentials on some PC's, AVG on others and Avast on 1 or 2. All with Malwarebytes and Advanced system care. And we still get flu!
My question is...is running a several anti's better than having only one...and if so what mixture is the best together. I know some antivirus programs sees a second one as a virus itself.
 
:eek: Under no circumstances should you run more than 1 at a time. MSE is enough. Now and then, run MalwareBytes Anti-Malware.
 
Only use these two in combination... best in protection, detection and repair.

+1 and just install the virustotal extension to check up on occasional potential threats (files that come from dodgy sources or look suspicious)
 
Bit Defender on a Corprate Network??? Not gonna happpen..
Any corprate anycase manages their AV structure. And the "Everyday User" does not even know when the AV config has changed, to eliminate those threats that standard AV config cant block.
MSE should actually also be on this list.. MSE Teamed up with MS Forfront works pretty well.

Why would anyone bother writing a virus to target 10% of the desktop market? :confused: The same reason why there are more games and apps available for Windows. It's a numbers game.

I run some of my windows systems without any anti-virus at all. I could do that to all my PCs if I knew I would be the only one working on them. Common Sense 1.0 still provides the highest protection against most of the nasties out there. It is just a shame that common sense ain't so common though.
 
Anyone using zone alarm?its firewall is so effective I thought its anti virus should also be amongst the best

Recently moved all our office pcs over to MSE, it's nice that it integrates with Windows Update so I can manage everything through WSUS.

At last!!

Back in the days you couldn't use MSE in a corporate environment, so very happy to see Microsoft has changed their minds! :)
