This morning when I woke up I could hear that krrrr hard drive sound, but when I checked nothing was running, no antivirus or spyware scans were running, it stopped as soon as I moved my mouse and my screen switched on. I went to take a shower and got dressed and before I left for work today my screen switched off autiomatically (like its supposed to after 30 minutes) but again the krrrrrrr sound. I move my mouse, check Task manager, and nothing, my pc is dead calm.

This has happened before but I assumed it was due to updates and whatnot. I last checked for malware/viruses on Monday.

Is this Windows media player updating my music with album covers? uTorrent (this never happened with XP)? Is Vista secrectly compiling things for Microsoft while I sleep?

What is Vista doing?

ivan have u turned indexing off

i would also turn off superfetch

when this krrrrr noise happen go into task manager click performance then click resource monitor, then go look at disk it should be writing anywhere from 4-15mb

Could have been Microsoft Defender running in the background Or could be De fragmenting....Windows norm runs these when your pc is idle

If this installation is less than 10 days (or so) old it's normal. Vista indexes your HDD for the first week or so after installation to optimize it for fast access and the krrrrr is most probably that (if it's a new installation of Vista).

I installed Vista on Saturday, so that explains it. Thanks alot guys.
I can finally sleep now knowing that nothing funky is going on with my pc, well..I cant really sleep thanks to that annoying sound...

feo vista will index your drive everyday

it will use up system resources on a daily basis

turn that kuk off because why do you need your drive indexed anyhow

my system used between 5-15mb on the hdd for nearly a month until i could not take it anymore and googled

turning off indexing and superfetch stopped it luckily as i was about to load xp

nothing like having a quadcore 4 gig raptor raid setup and your pc runs like shyte cause of indexing
