worked like hell and got myself a Jetta MKII CLI (the nifty one with full interior trim)

Modded it and later rode it into a robot at 120. 17, drunk and racing are things you dont want to be all at the same time.

I had a '58 Morris Minor bought for R100 from an old lady in Dunkeld. But it was my second car. The first was a '66 Alfa Giulia Super 1600, but wiped out by a drunk driver while it was parked outside a fellow student's flat in Braamfontein. He rear-ended it and the engine moved forward by 4 inches, breaking two mounts. No insurance. No recourse.

I did a project in Mechanical Engineering on the Wankel Rotary Engine.
Had the opportunity actually put one of those through a full set of bench tests in the Mech Eng Lab at UCT ...

I wonder what happen if modern materials were used to make one today --- how it would fare. Thought at the time it was best thing since sliced bread.
