What would you buy?

Most stores have just started stocking the Arcade. Microsoft's shipment was a little late. Most Hi-Fi Corporations should have them, as well as some Incredible Connections, Musicas etc. All major retailers should have it by next week (Game, Look & Listen etc.) Picking mine up as soon as Game gets stock.

Hi i was just wondering but i have nit seen thr arcade system for sale on kalahari or btgames yet. so could some one tell when it will be on or is it on another web site allready. thxs!

Isn't the pricing of the Arcade and Premium too close ... ? I mean with the Xmas bundles they're only R1000 apart and with the premium you're getting a HDD & 2 additional games?

The Arcade comes with the 5 arcade games as well....

I think they are trying to get you to buy the Premium this Christmas though

Important to note that its five "arcade" games, i.e. pacman and the like!

The arcade games are actually very popular. I still think its a good deal. For R1000 less than the premium you get 2 less games, no hard drive and no HDMI cable. It's perfect for non-hardcore gamers or those who plan on upgrading in future.

lol come on Abev play fair...

As has been said the Arcade games are actually very popular, the games you get are

PAC-MAN Championship Edition
Uno (Still one of the most popular games on Live)
Luxor 2
Boom Boom Rocket (fantastic Rythmn Game)
Feeding Frenzy

I am not to sure about Luxor 2 or Feeding Frenzy though...

Sorry Gav, I normally agree with what you say even though im a Ps3 dude, but that lineup looks pretty weak, any plans for further games?

Weak? Future games? on XBLA?

****loads!

There are some absolutely amazing XBLA games out now, more still due out this year and tons next, it's growing like wildfire.

There are already 90+ arcade games available on XB Live Arcade, I'd say at Least 50 of which are worth your attention, they're only $10 each and most still stick within the 50Mb limit so they're quick to downloads and you can quite easily fit 4-5 on the included 256Mb memory card (The included games ship on a disc) Licenses are per XBL account so when you want new ones you can just delete them and redownload them later if you so wish.

Those 5 games are all good, 4/5 I'd pay money for, and even Feeding Frenzy is great light entertainment for the kids, a nice way to get into using a controller, but not very deep (think like freeform pacman).

I think the two units are priced correctly against each other - the arcade is for someone who just want to play a couple of games, the sort that would impulse buy at retail if they saw a big flashy ad. The premium is more for someone who want's to try out all the latest demo's, donload movies etc etc.

The bonus being that even if you buy an arcade and a few months later feel the urge to "go hardcore" you can just buy an HDD, and whatever else you need, you're never stuck with a "oh ****" what d you mean I can't go back and try out God of war 1 & 2 ...?!"

If you want to play these arcade games then buy a golden china system.
Its a *** load cheaper and you can pick up more of the "arcade" games.
If like Doobiwan says and you decide to become a "hardcore gamer" further down the line then you can choose a xbox or a ps3.

Even though there is a lot of controversy on the topic it is very simple. A Xbox360 will be able to keep up with the PS3 for the next four years or so - but unless they improvise, MS will have a problem with game sizes. 360 uses DVDs for games thus its max capacity is 8gb, blu-ray can go up to 50gb. This has already been a problem for the dev team from Ubisoft with the creation of Assassins Creed. I have a 360 and will be buying my PS3 Q2 next year. Also, going for one console will damage your game range since Sony and Microsoft each buy exclusive rights eg. Splinter Cell vs Metal Gear Solid. Also, PS3 isnt really going through a "teething process", it has had one of the most successful launches in the console history and also there is a 40gb out for R4500.00 and that will probably drop after Christmas.

Also, the PS3 launched end 2006 - you cannot compare a console this young to the 360. I agree with abev about not hearing anyones PS2 breaking and the PS3 is an awesome system. At the moment all gaming engines has to be almost redesigned to be next-gen, MS has had two years of developing time - Sony only 1. Get both consoles and be happy. The console wars will rage forever - sad but true.

I think you might be mistaken... the PS3 hasn't had one of the most succesful launches in console history, that honour remains with the Wii. The PS3 has had a pretty poor launch in relation to expectation. The disc size issue may or may not come to bite MS in the ass, but thats still a good few years off I reckon. The PS3 is going through a teething process, what do you think all the firmware updates are for? you think sony just launched a console that was perfect.

You can compare the two consoles, as they are from the same generation, and the companies themselves compare them. Its not MS's fault that sony where late out of the gate.

And as for the PS2 breaking... lets just say I used to spend a fair amount of time at the repair centre in Durban and there was always a constant stream of Ps2's coming in and going out.

Sorry but no, within a year the PS3 will already be pulling ahead, this is the general opinion starting to filter through from more than a couple devs.

This is already starting to be an issue, que Assasins Creed, UT3 ect.

Hmmm true, but essentially MS came out a year early as opposed to sony coming out a year late, and hence all the problems with the xbox. It simply wasnt ready.

We have to do this again?

What "dev comments" have you been reading? There have been at least 2 articles in the last week alone from recognised developers (Stranglehold dev, Guitar Hero III dev) stating the PS3 is overhyped and is barely keeping up at the moment because the architecture is just not for games.

To date there is yet to be a concurrent release that ships on the PS3 and 360 where the PS3 title is the 360's equal, let alone superior.

This is already starting to be an issue, que Assasins Creed, UT3 ect.

Only if you're a lazy git who couldn't be bothered to get off their duff to swap a disc, whoop di doo, this is such a non issue. FFVII 7 & 8 were the most successful games on the PS1 and they were both multi-disc when CD was supposed to be the new "uber" format.

Funny how all the dev's rate the PS3's memory architecture as a bigger headache.

Hmm true, but essentially MS came out a year early as opposed to sony coming out a year late, and hence all the problems with the xbox. It simply wasnt ready.

Actually that's a bold face lie. Sony was due to launch the PS3 the exact same time as the 360. Sony's ship date slipped when they couldn't get decent yields on their Blu-Ray components. It was first due Xmas '05, then April '06 and finally got pushed to Xmas '06, then delayed again for Europe, all because of BR yields.

As far as your Arcade comments go. Yeah, go back to playing Flow, maybe one day PSN will get some content that's better than your Golden China. Arcades already generations ahead. Personally I can't wait for:

Penny Arcade adventures,
Pirates versus Ninja's dodgeball,
Hail to the Chimp,
Sam & Max,
Undertow,
Sensible Soccer,
Quake III Arena,
(and if I'm not mistaken Smash Court tennis 3 will be an XBLA release, but it could be retail)

Just the first few off the top of my head.

REDUX - and just another lie you were throwing about yesterday - GTAIV will not require a harddrive. The only games permitted to "require harddrives" on the 360 are MMO's, all other games must fit all profiles including HDD'less units.

Sigh I dont have the energy to disagree with you "opinion" cos thats all it is and it doesnt prove crap.

as for this comment,

Jeez I must be going crazy, pretty certain I never posted this! you must be getting senile in your old age.

My most sincere apologies, it appears it wasn't you, or at least not on this forum. I guess all the PS3 fanboys just sound the same. ;) :p

Yes, we all know about you and your "opinions". I'll leave it at that.
