What would you do?

I know that... But I wouldn't take a bath on something like that.. I would stick it out until I got to break even on the finance.
True. Not the kinda car to be wanting to finance.

This was the dilemma, the car had 82000km FSH. Current trade value: R75 000 (2020) R82 000 (2019). Settlement was R130k. Carrying on with term payments would have been R180k.

If I had to stick it out, I would have honestly come out with nothing. Basically at the point I was, my only selling point, besides the extras I added #dealerships don't look at those things# I had low mileage on my side.

So I asked myself, is it not sensible in saving myself now by selling it now while it's still worth a few pennies and settling the balance?

I would be saving myself a whole R100k and 5 years of keeping a car I didn't really want in the first place.

You wouldn't have been saving any money... All finance deals have a break even point, on average around 3 years... What you have done is spent r50k that you didn't need to to get rid of a working car that you weren't in love with.

I'm not beat the dead horse... He made a bad choice based on some misguided thinking.. I'm correcting the thinking so he doesn't do it again in the future.

**edit** though I won't lie figuring out he spent 50k to settle did blow my mind somewhat...

Jus to add a few more drops of fuel to this dead fire. I still had a residual attached to it. I took out R60k from savings.

So Dead horse indeed.

Moving forward. Lesson learnt.

Back to the topic.

Japanese hatch backs that will fit the requirements mentioned in the first post?

Honestly I would be considerably less picky at the 150k marker... I would suggest you need to broaden your pool and find a newer car that has better holding power in terms of depreciation.

I've got the 2010 Civic VXI hatch. No complaints. 169000km with only regular oil changes and wear and tear items.
Average around 8L/100km in the city, with 5-6L/100km on the open road.
Is this the manual or automatic? And was it part of the group that had the airbag recall?

I’m running a swift sport for about 2 years now. Awesome little car. And great fun to throw around. Like a go cart.

Know exactly what you mean. My dad has one. There's a Pic with the Ikon dearist and Zuuk. He just wishes that it was the cruise control spec, but other then that, he loves it.

Nice pic. Has a great rear end!

Wasn't aware there were different specs. I purchased new and there weren't any options. Cruise control was standard.

It certainly does! Bigger nostrils made it stand out even more. Yip, From 2014 upwards it comes with cruise control.

Just throw out some options, Honda Jazz or even a CRZ ;)

Had a 2012 Honda Jazz. Uhm it's a Jazz. Loved it, but a different flavor would be nice. A CRZ, the old one hell yes the raw B16B is very unrated (if you can find one). The new one is a disappointment, basically a Jazz platform with a mild hybrid system, the one positive however, add a supercharger and yes! One sneeky sleeper.

Toyota Auris TRD 1.6 Supercharged!
Jus done some research on them. On paper they are perfect. The nice and the ugly is, 1: there are only 200 made. 2: it's super rare to find a not tuned version of it. 3: 95% are over 150k km mark and want a serious penny for it.
