What would you have done ?

IMO it shouldn't even be the guy who has to let someone know that the girl is with him. If some chap is flirting with a girl then if that girl is with someone else then she should tell the guy that.

It depends on the circumstances. If you're sitting with your gf somewhere and some dude walks up and starts openly hitting on her it's time for you to step up. That's not just about her, that's some dude disrespecting you and the truth is if you sit there and take it, any women is going to lose respect regardless of what they might say.
It's a tough situation though. You could easily come out of it looking like an *******.

My ex gf told me at a party some guy approached her and he thought she digged him,she said I have a bf and he like so I have a gf... Ahhh she tuned him stukkend :D

Theres only a problem if your girlfriend is flirting back... you don't own her... and there's no need to get up tight about some dick head thinking he's awesome.

@OP, the waiter is just confirming to you that your girlfriend isn't ugly. Embrace it.

On the topic of waiters, everyone should watch wheezywaiter's videos on YouTube.

After that we drove back to JHB and her sister came over with her boyfriend. We told them about the waiter and immediately the sister's boyfriend asked me what did I do when the waiter smiled at my girlfriend. We both said we just laughed about it. The boyfriend then told me that he would not have laughed about it and he would have done something about it. After he said that, I feel kind of pissed off at myself for not doing something about the waiter.

So, what would you have done or could I have done ?
Can your sister's boyfriend walk and chew gum at the same time? Getting worked up about something that trivial will get him hurt sooner or later.

There's really no point getting into a froth about it.

Don't be ridiculous. There is such a thing as being so enlightened your balls shrivel up and fall off.
That situation is about defending your boundaries not your territory or property. If your SO expects you to sit quietly while some guy hits on her in front of you when you are clearly together, or respects you for doing it, then I'm very surprised.
Like taking out the garbage there are things that. are just your job as the man.
When you're not sitting right next to you then its her job.

I grew up... I'm not a teenage boy who needs to 'defend my boundaries' like an animal - someone smiling at my girlfriend does not require my response or aggression

If the situation is reversed and some girl flirts with you, is your girlfriend meant to defend you and get in a bitch fight? Sorry - I don't hang out with Jerry Springer trailer trash type people.

So, I never post these kind of questions, but just looking for advice.

Today me and my girlfriend went to visit some of her friends in Potchefstroom and before we drove home, we decided to stop at Spur and we each ordered something to drink. While we were sitting at the table one of the waiters walked by and smiled at her. We both laughed at the guy and then later on he walked past again and smiled at her she ignored it I felt a bit uneasy, but nothing I could really do about it or so I thought.

Perhaps you should have smiled at him?

Well-said. That's exactly what it amounts to.

I wasn't talking about someone just smiling.

Your girlfriend would then be disrespecting you if she starts flirting back - how the hell is a guy supposed to flirt with a girl if she does not respond?

Smiled at him and winked :D Why would you want to do anything? Your GF was obviously being paid a compliment and you are the guys hero / idol for having a "hot gf".

I'm really trying to imagine a reaction in this scenario that would not make you out to be an insecure boor, and I'm not succeeding. :p

+100.

I'm sorry, there's nothing wrong with telling a guy she's with you when a guy hits on her in front of you. It's a matter of self-respect. There is nothing Jerry Springer about it.

I think that would depend on what's being said. If it's idle chatter then it's nothing to worry about, and if it's a smile then it's nothing to worry about either.

Even if he is obviously flirting with her in an exaggerated manner, there are better ways to go about resolving the problem. I hate belittling waiters, but if one of them had the nerve to do that to me, then it's exactly what I would do - make him look small and insignificant. Interrupt any conversation and make him work extra hard for his money by ordering a coke every 5 minutes, then leave him with a 2% tip.

There are more fun ways to play these games than to simply tell him to f-off.

The only advantage I see in this is that after the first glass, the rest will have less pee in it.
