What's going on MWEB?

Appreciate the help MWEB Guy, but they have since moved to another ISP.

Thought you were referring to present tense.

LinuxMan, I don't think your statement is true and is certainly not substantiated.

Just stating what I have been through with clients over the past few days.

Seems like the service has been lacking, just look at the comments on this forum.
No further help needed. They are all sorted now.

A few clients on this forum is still having a good experience using our packages.

We do deal with a few clients via My BB, however most of these queries are not related to the MWEB network.

On a side note, even in an unthrottled state with MWEB, services have always been slow.
Youtube for example, different ISP now YouTube works so much better.

Clients can see a big improvement now in general internet use, not using MWEB.
Before people start bashing, prior to the ISP change MWEB data was "unthrottled". With still poor performance.
That is just 1 example.

This is not what 99% of people experience. It borders on impossible.

Maybe there have been a few issues over the past few days, but it's certainly not an ongoing thing as you've been suggesting. That's impossible.

That's what I found strange as well.
Got to keep clients happy, if they not satisfied change needs to take place ASAP.

I agree that ISP is a personal choice and I agree that one ISP may seem to represent value to one subscriber while being the pits for another.

Having said that, the issue I have with MWEB is one of principle. Their network and infrastructure is good.

MWEB - when managed by Rudi Jansen, revolutionosed the web. He freed the web. He started ''uncapped"' in SA. This allowed MWEB to become the biggest and argueably best ISP in the country. Rudi left, and Derek Hershaw took the reigns.

Unilaterally, he dedided to undo all the good will and internet freedom that EVERY MWEB subscriber used to enjoy. MWEBs throttle policy became silly and un defined.

To boot, subscribers were sent very poorly constructed letters basically telling them they were lower than doggie doo. Suddenly, it was a crime to be a heavy user, and where you were a heavy user, legitimate or not ..... in MWEBs eyes you were an abuser, a torrent whore .......

And the kicker was that for all this MWEB increased their prices while offering less. The MWEB shop in my area closed up, despite it being in the largest mall in KZN at the time.

I am happy for those people who are happy with MWEB.

But for me, I refuse to give my cash to benefit a CEO who I feel has morally wronged me and a whole bunch of other consumers.
IMHO MWEB can kiss my lily white are sole.

Im happy at Mweb, I am sure Hershaw has business reasons for doing so, perhaps since most Mybroadband members were with them at the time,Mweb may have had to cut his bonuses to buy more bandwidth:whistle:

I had contemplated leaving during the boycott campaign, but realised I was well whiten the limit and that Mweb were just catering to a client base of minimal usage, If enough people get throttled, most would leave Mweb and they would adapt their business or close down, I still suspect they the biggest ISP in the country, purly judging on the FON router map.

I used to eat at the Mugg and Bean opposite very often at all the of the day, night, weekday and weekends, I estimate I watched the shop for over 20 hours and only once noticed some one walking for photocopying. But they now have moved their shop to Gateway,so they have still kept it in the largest Kzn mall.

Luckily Im not a gamer with my 70 gig throttle , i would have to sit without internet for the rest of the month if I downloaded this http://mygaming.co.za/news/news/732...-puny-south-african-broadband-connection.html

A better way would be to ensure clients have backup accounts, whether a free 1GB account from other ISPs, or a cheap 5GB monthly account, etc.

That is service/support. :)

Clients should not have the expectation of 100% uptime. Although I'm not surprised they did, considering they were with MWEB...

Hey guys, don't really know much about different ISP's and all I've really known is Mweb - been with them since i first got ADSL.

I currently have an uncapped ADSL 2mb line with Mweb.. and for the past week I've been getting download speeds less than 0,3mbps. I called them tonight and they said they are throttling me because I've hit my 100GB mark.. whatever that means.. i told them if they don't assist me I'm going to move to a new ISP - and of coarse - they didn't help.

Who should i switch to?? I'm looking to get a 4mb line uncapped - no catches?

Hi beflex, the only way to lift a throttle is to either upgrade to a package with a larger download threshold (this option aligns nicely with your current needs), or to monitor your usage and ensure that usage for the past 30 days drops below said download threshold.

Please PM me your MWEB account details, so that I can look into this for you.

Do not see download threshold on your website. Where can I get this info? 10Mb uncapped.

Good MOrning YeOldeOke, the thresholds imposed on our 10Mbps standard package is approximately 250GB's and 950GB's on the 10Mbps Premium shaped package.

Wouldn't you say that any limits/thresholds should be prominently shown on the website with the uncapped claim so that a potential client can make an educated decision *before* signing up?

I understand your sentiment YeOldeOke and will pass it along to the relevant management team.

I enjoy almost everything about my Mweb 4mbps uncapped, especially the price. I can live with the 110gb rolling 30 day threshold....what I am battling with and tempted to leave Mweb for is that I cannot download from astraweb....or torrents. I do not download often or huge amounts....but when I want to download something using a torrent or using nzbgeek and astraweb, thats what I want to do. But I get zero byte downloads downloads with Mweb. I move onto an Afrihost capped account and I get full speeds.

This I do not appreciate from Mweb. I have been a loyal customer and I dont abuse downloads.

So....I have an mweb 4mb uncapped account and adsl line bundle. If I want to only cancel the ISP portion and move to another ISP...what happens to my adsl line which is managed by them?

Sorry to see you're contemplating ending your MWEB subscription. For an unshaped experience, you may want to consider upgrading to one of our unshaped uncapped options instead.

1Mbps Uncapped Unshaped ADSL Data Only: http://www.mweb.co.za/small-busines...1mbps-uncapped-unshaped-unthrottled-adsl.aspx
2Mbps Uncapped Unshaped ADSL Data Only: http://www.mweb.co.za/small-busines...2mbps-uncapped-unshaped-unthrottled-adsl.aspx
4Mbps Uncapped Unshaped ADSL Data Only: http://www.mweb.co.za/small-busines...4mbps-uncapped-unshaped-unthrottled-adsl.aspx

Please PM me your MWEB account details, include your preferred contact number, and I'll arrange for someone to ring you to chat about your query.

Can @mwebguy give an ETA on this silly international issue currently being experienced? I cannot even do a google search, without having to wait ~2mins for google to respond. My work connection has 0 issues. And its not my pc, as the google search sucks on all computers in my household.

Also if i could extend my unhappiness a bit with further issues being experienced of late.
Streaming from twitch.tv is horrendous (my streaming stutters with medium (360p) and even low (280p)), same goes for Youtube. The last time I ever really had to complain about mweb was back in 2011 when they gave no hoots about gamers. But then they fixed their issues and I was happy. Lately I'm starting to feel like something is lacking again.

BTW I am on a 4mb uncapped premium account and have never breached my threshold.

Re Google, try changing browsers. Other ISPs affected too.

Re their other issues, sounds like a Telkom fault I'm afraid.

@postmanpot

It's not a line issue. I can get 450k torrent speeds on my line with no issue but during that same time streaming suffers (during offpeak hours ofcourse - even weekends are good with p2p). And since i need to add this: I stop torrents when i'm doing anything, like streaming/ gaming etc, its not a matter of trying to stream and download at the same time.

Other sites work fine. But streaming is a pain. I don't have netflix though so cannot compare it to that. Just seems that constant data from certain sites is off and on.
