Whatsapp and your mic

So the new Whatsapp requires access to your mic and will continuously request this.
How do i stop it without allowing access to the mic?

I just turned off the microphone Under Settings > Whats App Privacy.

As long as I don't hit the microphone button - I'm running ios 8 though so that could be a factor. I'll test it on my wife's phone when she gets home.

On my iPhone 4S Whatsapp has to get cleared from background often to free up memory. This means it starts fresh often. Every fresh start means it asks for microphone permissions...and on startup, not when you press the button. I eventually just turned it on to be able to use whatsapp without that popup each time. I turned it off because I often presses the microphone button by mistake. Now there are two buttons to press by mistake.

This new whatsapp update is also irritating me a bit as well.

I haven't had any mic or notification issues like the others, but i often find myself missing the send button. Especially when the message spans over a few lines and the send button centres itself. Making it hard to miss.

It's frustrating.

It is frustrating, a lot of apps are starting to do this, I am starting to delete/uninstall apps as this happens ... , WhatsApp is fast heading for a similar fate ...

Why not just give whatsapp permission to use the microphone? If you don't use the voice note function, the microphone will not be used in any case, not so?

Considering the recent privacy concerns over Facebook messenger I'd be a little concerned about whatever they might have done to this app too.

Have not moved to Facebook messenger, and considering, my concerns about the way things are going, with all apps wanting access to information and devices they have no need for ... , I am slowly reducing my "exposure" ... , will see how minimal I get go.

It will be correct if it asks from the beginning, not when you hit microphone icon. It is completely wrong that it asks repeatedly instead of deactivating microphone icon (it should have an option to activate thereafter).

There is an app called Telegram for Whatsapp replacement - my choice.

I downloaded the latest update today, they have removed the constant "enable mic flag"
